Liner notes consist of an essay about U2 from Dave Thompson.
Following on from the success of our recent tribute albums, this 14
track CD is a tribute to Irish megastars U2. There are tributes by such
bands as Heaven 17, The Mission, Dead Or Alive, Die Krupps and an
interesting collaboration between Front Line Assembly and 80's teen
star Tiffany.
Paying tribute to one of rock's greatest bands to emerge during the
'80s and to continue their reign throughout the '90s comes the various
artists collection from Cleopatra entitled We Will Follow: Tribute to
U2. This eclectic compilation features some of the most bizarre toasts
from '90s industrial/goth rock rockers such as Front Line Assembly
("New Year's Day"), Die Krupps ("Numb"), Rosetta Stone ("October"), and
Spahn Ranch ("I Will Follow"). Fellow '80s flash in the pans Tiffany,
Heaven 17, and Dead or Alive contribute covers to this ironic release.
MacKenzie Wilson
US indie label seeking "deconstruction" by eliciting covers from mostly
electronic acts with an '80s slant (Heavy 17, Dead or Alive) or virtual
unknowns. Most simply add their own stamp, with The Polecats'
rockabilly simplicity on Desire the best. The Mission's All I Want Is
You and one-time glam-metallers Bang Tango's energised mix of
electronics and guitars on Even Better Than The Real Thing are the pick
of the more adventurous. Worth hearing, if only for it's diversity
