DJ Gü-Mix ist Mitbegründer des Wiener "Dub Club", wo auch Kollegen wie Peter Kruder und Richard Dorfmeister das Vinyl kreisen lassen. Nomen est Omen: Dub ist das Fundament, auf dem Gü-Mix eine ganze Palette von schaumgebremsten Beats allerhöchster Qualität aufgetürmt hat. Natürlich ist die Wiener Schule von Tosca (R. Dorfmeister), Peace Orchestra (P. Kruder) und Walkner Moestl ebenso vertreten wie internationale Schmankerl von A Reminiscent Drive, Funki Porcini und Gotan Project. Somit ist Playground Vol. 1 hochkarätiger besetzt als die im September 2000 veröffentlichte Dub Club-Compilation. Einige der auf Playground versammelten Tracks sind natürlich schon andernorts verbaut worden, doch die eigentliche Schönheit dieser Compilation liegt in der traumwandlerischen Sicherheit, mit der Gü-Mix hier eine entspannte, leicht melancholische Stimmung über 74 Minuten durchhält. Noch cooler kann eigentlich nur ein Abend am Ort des Geschehens selbst sein. Sicherlich einer der besten Downtempo-Sampler des Jahres 2000!

DJ Gü-Mix is resident DJ at the now legendary Sub Club in Vienna. It's surprising it's taken this long for them to start putting out mix CD's - when you consider the calibre of local Viennese dub talent on offer. Kruder & Dorfmeister may have put the Sub Club scene on the musical map (their side projects, Tosca and Peace Orchestra contribute a track each to the mix), but they have fostered a cluster of like-minded artists and this is as fine a showcase of contemporary Austrian dub talent as you could hope for - mixed to perfection by DJ Gü-Mix. NZ'ers have acquired an educated palate for dub music in all its forms, and if you're a fan of the Austrian take on jazzy, downbeat, Latin-based dub styles then this CD is a must for your collection. treibender dub- und ambient-beat, der einen abheben lässt... dieses scheibchen ist genau das richtige für einen entspannten abend in einer kleinen jungle-blacklight-bar, zumindest fällt es nicht schwer, sich beim sphärischen klang dieses silberlings in sein ganz privates paradies zu träumen, selbst wenn der sound aus der anlage im wohnzimmer kommt. starkes teil für ambitionierte dub- und ambient-freaks, die mehr erwarten als puren musikgenuß! (kommt besonders gut bei passender beleuchtung...)
