1996 CD Blue Note 54365

Another great gem in Blue Note's Blue compilation series, Midnight Blue features some of the greatest sensual, nocturnal songs issued by the label over its entire history. Johnny Hartman's buttery voice seduces on "The Nearness of You," Nat King Cole and George Shearing soothe on "Fly Me to the Moon," and on "You Don't Know What Love is," Cassandra Wilson shows that the great traditions of vocal jazz continue even into the '90s.

Music, the night, and y'all ... If you play this CD during your next dangerous liason, and it doesn't improve your seduction techniques by 40%, you should have your wiring checked, something ain't right witcha. This is the real thing, smooth jazz by some of the greats of the 50s and 60s. In terms of smooth, it's got it all. Sax, horns, strings, even vocals by the likes of Nat "King" Cole. Get hep, Daddy-o, all you cool cats and swinging chicks just light a few candles, pour some libations, hit the play button and start sweeping each other off your feet. As Maria Muldaur says, "It ain't the meat, it's the motion". So get moving.
