2008 CD Hypertension 8264

"10" contains Midge's own interpretations, of his favourite songs, written by other songwriters and was recorded during the time Midge spent in Canada, in 2007/2008.

"I make no apology for the eclectic choice of songs on this CD. I believe we are all affected by music in our surroundings and that it helps to shape our lives and mould us into the people we become. Whether it's during conception or birth, life or death. Music is there helping us on our way. We are not responsible for the songs we are subjected to when we are young but there is no doubt it puts us on our own individual roads of discovery and leads us all to our own personal musical world. These songs I have chosen to cover have left a profound mark on me throughout my youth and my intention in recording them was as a mark of respect to the writers. The great writers who gave me a fantastic musical education as well as an unatainable benchmark to try to reach as an aspiring songwriter."

Midge Ure - 2008

Der schottische Singer/Songwriter James "Midge" Ure (55) tanzte in seiner langen Karriere auf vielen Hochzeiten. Er spielte u.a. in den Bands Visage ("Fade to grey"), The Rich Kids ("Marching men") und Ultravox ("Dancing with tears in my eyes") und ist seit Mitte der 80er Jahre auch solo mehr oder weniger erfolgreich unterwegs (größter Hit: "If I was", 1985).

Alfie

What's it all about, Alfie?
Is it just for the moment we live?
What's it all about when you sort it out, Alfie?
Are we meant to take more than we give
or are we meant to be kind?
And if only fools are kind, Alfie,
then I guess it's wise to be cruel.
And if life belongs only to the strong, Alfie,
what will you lend on an old golden rule?
As sure as I believe there's a heaven above, Alfie,
I know there's something much more,
something even non-believers can believe in.
I believe in love, Alfie.
Without true love we just exist, Alfie.
Until you find the love you've missed you're nothing, Alfie.
When you walk let your heart lead the way
and you'll find love any day, Alfie, Alfie.

Man Of The World

Shall I tell you about my life
They say I'm a man of the world
I've flown across every tide
And I've seen lots of pretty girls

I guess I've got everything I need
I wouldn't ask for more
And there's no one I'd rather be
But I just wish that I had never been born

break:

And I need a good woman
to make me feel like a good man should
I don't say I'm a good man
Or that I would be if I could

I could tell you about my life
And keep you amused I'm sure
About all the times I've cried
And how I don't want to be sad anymore
And how I wish I was in love

Goodbye To Love

I'll say goodbye to love
No one ever cared if I should live or die
Time and time again the chance for love has passed me by
And all I know of love is how to live without it
I just can't seem to find it

So I've made my mind up
I must live my life alone
And though it's not the easy way
I guess I've always know

I'd say goodbye to love
There are no tomorrows for this heart of mine
Surely time will lose these bitter memories
And I'll find that there is someone to believe in
And to live for something I could live for

All the years of useless search
Have finally reached an end
Loneliness and empty days will be my only friend
From this day love is forgotten
I'll go on as best I can

What lies in the future is a mystery to us all
No one can predict the wheel of fortune as it falls
There may come a time when I will see that I've been wrong
But for now this is my song

And it's goodbye to love
I'll say goodbye to love

Day After Day

I remember finding out about you
Every day, my mind is all around you
Looking out from my lonely room, day after day
Bring it home, baby, make it soon
I give my love to you

I remember holding you while you sleep
Every day, I feel the tears that you weep
Looking out of my lonely gloom, day after day
Bring it home, baby, make it soon
I give my love to you

Looking out of my lonely room, day after day
Bring it home, baby, make it soon
I give my love to you

I remember finding out about you
Every day, my mind is all around you
Looking out of my lonely gloom, day after day
Bring it home, baby, make it soon
I give my love to you.

Let The Heartaches Begin

I can hear the guitars start to play
And very soon they say
I was a fool to turn my love away
And with each glass of wine I feel a glow
And very soon I know
I was a fool to let my baby go

So let the heartaches begin
I can't help it, I can't win
I've lost that girl for sure
Tears won't help anymore
Yes let the heartaches begin
I can't help it, I can't win
I've lost that girl for sure
Now she's gone
I can't hold back the tears anymore

I can see the couples dancin' through the night
They hold each other tight
As they dance of love till the morning light
The soft embraces that they seem to share
Just make me feel aware
Of the lonliness I find so hard to bear

So let the heartaches begin
I can't help it, I can't win
I've lost that girl for sure
My tears won't help anymore
Yes let the heartaches, heartaches begin
I just can't help it,you know that I just can't win
I've lost that girl for sure
And now that she's gone
I can't hold back the tears anymore

My Mind's Eye

I sit here every day looking at the sky
Ever wondering why I dream my dreams away
And I'm living for today in my mind's eye

Things are clearer than before
Showing me the way, asking me to stay
I'll never close the door to all these things and more
In my mind's eye

Everybody I know says I'm changing
Laughing behind their backs, I think they're strange
People running everywhere, running through my life
I couldn't give a care because they'll never see
All that I can see with my mind's eye

A Song for While I'm Away

These words I wrote, play and sing to you
Do not convey the love I brought and bring to you
For this is a song for while I'm away
To say all the things I'd love to say

You are my life, my everything, you're all I have
You are my hopes, my dreams, my world come true
You're all I have
Please heed me now these words I have to say

Now I'm headed for the border
You see this song it ends right at the start
I swore when I was younger
No one would win my heart

And far away hills look greener still
But soon they'll all slip away
It's then I'll be returning
And I'll be coming home to stay

You are my life, my everything, you're all I have
You are my hopes, my dreams, my world come true
You're all I have
Please heed me now these words I have to say

Nevermore

There’s no living in my life anymore
The seas have gone dry and the rain stopped falling
Please don’t you cry anymore
Can’t you see
Listen to the breeze, whisper to me please
Don’t send me to the path of nevermore

Even the valleys below
Where the rays of the sun were so warn and tender
Now haven’t anything to grow
Can’t you see
Why did you have to leave me
Why did you deceive me
You send me to the path of nevermore
When you say you didn’t love me anymore
Nevermore
Nevermore

To Sir With Love

Those schoolgirl days, of telling tales and biting nails are gone,
But in my mind,
I know they will still live on and on,
But how do you thank someone, who has taken you from crayons to perfume?
It isn't easy, but I'll try,

If you wanted the sky I would write across the sky in letters,
That would soar a thousand feet high,
To Sir, with Love

The time has come,
For closing books and long last looks must end,
And as I leave,
I know that I am leaving my best friend,
A friend who taught me right from wrong,
And weak from strong,
That's a lot to learn,
What, what can I give you in return?

If you wanted the moon I would try to make a start,
But I, would rather you let me give my heart,
To Sir, with Love

Lady Stardust

People stared at the makeup on his face
Laughed at his long black hair, his animal grace

The boy in the bright blue jeans
Jumped up on the stage
And lady stardust sang his songs
Of darkness and disgrace

[CHORUS]
And he was alright, the band was altogether
Yes he was alright, the song went on forever
And he was awful nice
Really quite out of sight
([second time:] really quite paradise)
And he sang all night long

Femme fatales emerged from shadows
To watch this creature fair
Boys stood upon their chairs
To make their point of view
I smiled sadly for a love I could not obey

Lady Stardust sang his songs
Of darkness and dismay

[CHORUS]

Oh how I sighed
When they asked if I knew his name

[CHORUS]

Get some pussy now!
