The one thing that saves Stiltskin's only release from total obscurity
is a jeans commercial. The lead track, "Inside," was used in a very
successful U.K. ad campaign for Levis. With the help of the ads, along
with a strong guitar riff, the song was pushed up the charts in Britain
for a brief stay. Unfortunately, there's nothing else on Mind's Eye to
rival this one very good song. The tracks alternate between
angst-ridden hard rock and acoustic numbers devoid of life. The best
thing about this album is the voice of Ray Wilson, who would go on to
replace Phil Collins as the lead singer of Genesis. Wilson has good
range, but sings with a detachment that needs to be married to strong
melodies to really work. Since such melodies are lacking here, the
listener is left with one great song, and one bad song replayed ten
different ways.
taugt.
I see your voice
You're a scared of a ghost
take what you had
from pillar to post
I stand beside you
and look in your eyes
and If you're dead its no surprise
I hear you
I hear you
words don't be afraid
words don't be afraid
don't be afraid
they live your life
through the core of the tune
under advice
You take It too soon
They steal Your name
turn in your grave
their armies march there's nothing to save
now your ideas are rollin in dust
and all you fought
for those who won't trust
take your inversion
and turn It around
paint your perversion and hide it in sound
I hear you
I hear you
words don't be afraid
words don't be afraid
don't be afraid
don't be afraid anymore when they turn out the night
don't be afraid in the dark of the light
don't be afradi anymore at the sound of the sea
don't be afraid
HORSE
See me shed in my mind as I leave to find the circles
with the gilded tongue of the eldest son I ask her
and I inch a smile as I take a mile from their longings
and they from a chain in the fleeting rain as I leave them
I don't want to be responsible
look at me now in my real skin
made a vow my real skin
shed it now keep coming in
here for now in my real skin
I saw a picture frame tied to a horse
I saw the crystal night out on the concourse
and the ancient trees of the bended knees will fracture
and we double take an empty wake and leave them
I don't want to be responsible
Chorus:
'round and round and round and round
round and round and round and round'
I don't want to be responsible
I don't want to be respoonsible
look at me now
look at me now
Chorus
REST IN PEACE
Each night I taste the silence
of the words in my throat
Each day we hide in laughter
when they turn round and float
Do you lie back and thing of england
as they shout in your face
stand up and give them flowers
mary full of grace
Temper's out of control again
there's an itch in my soul again
If I scratch it I will rest in peace
Each day I'm in the future
of a net curtained past
each day I'm out of pocket
time didn't last
Each night I wake up smoking
and my eyes start to sting
wish I could keep them open
when the trees start to sing
Chorus
Each night I taste the silence
of the words in my throat
each day we hide in laughter
when they turn round and float
Chorus
FOOTSTEPS
You take him places I can't go.
You tell him things I don't know...
And even when the bonds hold fast,
You make me hate the past!
Walking in your footsteps,
I used to walk by your side.
How could you leave me,
On the very edge of suicide...?
He leaves you traces I can see.
He takes the things you gave to me...
and even in the coldest place,
I'm just an empty space!
Walking in your footsteps,
I used to walk by your side.
How could you leave me,
On the very edge of suicide?
I'm lost without you,
But, well I know you go your own way.
You never needed me no matter what you say
Walking in your footsteps,
I used to walk by your side.
How could you leave me,
On the very edge of suicide?
SUNSHINE AND BUTTERFLIES
Into a room
old curtains broken chairs
I walk in through
dust on the wooden stairs
stone by the trees
lost days and faded names
pain in my throat
no river stays the same
they won't be here anymore
they won't be here anymore
When the time was new
long days and laughing eyes
walk through the fields
sunshine and butterflies
a fragile place
nothing ever stays for long
a foreign land
take right and make it wrong
they won't be anymore
they won't be anymore
its all lost to the wind
they won't be anymore
into a room
old curtains broken chairs
I walk on through
dust on the wooden stairs
Chorus
INSIDE
Swing low
In a dark glass hour
You turn and cower
See it turn to dust
Move on a sone dark night
We take to fight
Snowfall turns to rust
Seam in a fusing mine
Like a nursing rhyme
Fat man start to fall
Long year in a hostile place
I hear your face start to call
And if you think
That I've been loosing my way
That's because I'm slightly blinded
And if you think
That I don't make too much sense
That's because
I'm broken minded
Don't keep it ...
Inside
If you believe it
Don't keep it all inside
Strong words
In a ganges sky
I have to lie
Shadows move in Paris
Ring out from a bruised postcard
In the shooting yard
Looking through the tears
Out of the black slate time
We move in line
But never reach an end
Fall in a long stray town
As the ice comes round
River starts to bend
And if you think
That I've been loosing my way
That's because I'm slightly blinded
And if you think
That I don't make too much sense
That's because
I'm broken minded
Don't keep it ...
Inside
If you believe it
Don't keep it all inside
AN ILLUSION
I guess I could if I wanted
I guess I could if I wanted
I guess I could if I wanted
I guess I could if I wanted
I don't mind if it's all an illusion
nothing really there
I don't mind if it's all lost in sandstone
or riding on the air
in the night I know that it's true
in the night I know that it's true
in the day I get confused
but in the night I know that it's true
I guess I could if I wanted
I guess I could if I wanted
I guess I could if I wanted
I guess I could if I wanted
I don't mind if I lose all you gave me
you'd never know
I don't mind if you stay on the outside
nothing here to show
Chorus
AMERICA
You've got to run to me
You've got to hide from me
You've got to look to me
You've got to close your ears
You've got to be like me
You've got to change from me
You've got to smile to me
You've got to cry your tears
Rhyme America
Rhyme America
Rhyme America
America is me (I'm in America)
America is me (I'm in America)
You've got to see through me
You've got to feel for me
You've got to kill for me
You've got to save my life
You've got to sell me
You've got to buy from me
You've got to watch with me
You've got to hide your eyes
Rhyme America
Rhyme America
Rhyme America
America is me (I'm in America)
America is me (I'm in America)
WHEN MY SHIP COMES IN
A matter of empty gestures
A question of circumstance
But only fools turn
You gave without a question
You spoke without conceit
I had too much to learn
We'll be together
We'll be together
We'll be together when my ship comes in
I meant to take it further
I meant to hide your fears
I'm down with all the lice
I want to make it better
I want to sink your pain
Every beggar is Christ
We'll be together
We'll be together
We'll be together when my ship comes in
We'll be together
We'll be together
We'll be together when my ship comes in
Every beggar is Christ
We'll be together
We'll be together
We'll be together when my ship comes in
I hear you in the darkness
Deep heat from your tears
I don't want to be divided
I wish I could lose myself
I wish I could un-meet you
I don't want to be divided
We'll be together
We'll be together
We'll be together when my ship comes in
