Chronicling the first meeting of South Africa with its favourite British band, Mumford & Sons, award-winning director Dick Carruthers gets to the very heart of what makes Mumford & Sons such a special act. Filmed live against the beautiful Pretorian outback, the band performs their most recent material and classic hits in front of an exhilarated crowd. Filmed in stunning 4K and mixed in 5.1 surround sound. Playing to a crowd of over 50,000 people, the band perform tracks including 'I Will Wait', 'Believe' and 'Snake Eyes'.



The London band released a mini-album entitled ‘Johannesburg’ with touring partners Baaba Maal, Beatenberg and The Very Best during June. The mini-album was recorded over the course of two “all day and all night” sessions in Johannesburg as part of a sizeable South African tour undertaken in January and February of this year.

It has now been announced that the group will premiere new concert film Live From South Africa: Dust And Thunder in select cinemas worldwide from November 8. The film will document the band’s gig in Pretoria, South Africa in front of 50,000 fans.

Mumford & Sons say of the news: “This was one of the most exciting shows we played on the Wilder Mind tour. We had just spent the preceding couple of days in a studio in Johannesburg with Baaba Maal, The Very Best and Beatenberg so we couldn’t help but get everyone out on stage to play a few of the songs we’d just written.”

“It was also our first time playing in South Africa and we never could have anticipated such a welcome. This show marks a really exciting time in the journey we have taken as band. A journey fuelled by a desire to explore the world and the connection between the communities of musicians who continue to make it feel like a smaller and smaller place.”

Gänsehaut pur: Mumford & Sons in Südafrika

Im Laufe von zehn Jahren, drei Alben und zahlreichen EPs haben sich Mumford & Sons nicht nur musikalisch weiterentwickelt, sondern sich auch eine weltweite Fanbase aufgebaut. Dass diese sogar in Südafrika riesig ist, hätte die Band selbst kaum geglaubt.

Im Frühjahr 2016 wurden sie eines Besseren belehrt, bei zwei Konzerten im Hinterland der südafrikanischen Hauptstadt Pretoria. »Mumford & Sons: Live In South Africa: Dust And Thunder« heißt der neue Konzertfilm von Dick Carruthers, der dieses spektakuläre Livespektakel dokumentiert.

Rund 50.000 begeisterte südafrikanische Fans waren gekommen, um gemeinsam mit der Band viele ihrer Klassiker und neuen Hits zu feiern. Zu den Highlights von »Mumford & Sons: Live In South Africa: Dust And Thunder« gehören unter anderem »The Cave«, »Little Lion Man«, »I Will Wait«, »Lover Of The Light«, »Snake Eyes« und »The Wolf«.

Einen weiteren Höhepunkt der Show bot der Auftritt des zurzeit berühmtesten senegalesischen Sängers Baaba Maal. Mit ihm und anderen einheimischen Musikern hatten Mumford & Sons im Zuge ihres Südafrikaaufenthalts ihre »Johannesburg EP« aufgenommen. Diese war bereits im Juni 2016 erschienen.

Die Konzerte wurden im digitalen 4K-Format gefilmt und mit 5.1-Surroundsound abgemischt. »Mumford & Sons: Live In South Africa: Dust And Thunder« gibt es sowohl als DVD und Blu-ray als auch als limitierte Deluxe-Editions mit Doppel-DVD bzw. Doppel-Blu-ray inklusive CD. Diese vereinen den Konzertfilm »Dust And Thunder « und die zugehörige Dokumentation »We Wrote This Yesterday«. Die CD versammelt einige ausgewählte Titel der Liveshow. Abgerundet werden die Deluxe-Editions von einem 20-seitigen Booklet, unter anderem mit bislang unveröffentlichten Fotos.
