Rebel Music is an exuberant collection of Marley's most strident songs. It reconciles his revolutionary fervor ("Get Up, Stand Up") and vision of one love ("War/No More Trouble") with his Rasta roots.

Bright souls often burn but briefly. So it was with Bob Marley. This compilation released in 1986 is a testament to a spirit that the world never tamed or conquered, to a man who rose from the humblest of origins to become a champion for the downpressed everywhere.

Containing powerful anthems of defiance and rebellion, this collection illuminates the struggle against injustice which came to dominate Bob Marley's life and work. Never animated by hatred or revenge, this rebel music shows an unshakeable commitment to life and its glories, which are the right of all, no matter what the circumstances of their birth.

Rebel music (3 O'clock roadblock)

I, rebel music
I, rebel music
Why can't we roam this open country
Oh why can't we be what we want to be
We want to be free

3 o'clock - roadblock, curfew
And I've got to throw away
Yes I've got to throw away
Yes I've got to throw away
My little herb stalk

I, rebel music
I, rebel music

Take my soul and suss me out
Check my life if I am in doubt
3 o'clock - roadblock
And hey Mr. Cop, ain't got no
(What you say down there)
Ain't got no birth certificate on me now

I, rebel music
I, rebel music
Take my soul and suss me out
Check my life if I am in doubt
3 o'clock - roadblock
And hey Mr. Cop, ain't got no
(What you say down there)
Ain't got no birth certificate on me now.

So much trouble in the world

So much trouble in the world now (repeat)
Bless my eyes this morning
JAH sun is on the rise once again
The way earthly things are going
Anything can happen

You see men sailing on their ego trips
Blast off on their spaceships
Million miles from reality
No care for you, no care for me
So much trouble in the world now (repeat)
All you've got to do is give a little
Give a little, give a little
One more time ye-a-h! ye-ah!

So you think you have found the solution
But it's just another illusion
So before you check out your tide
Don't leave another cornerstone standing there behind
We have got to face the day, ooh we come what may
We the street people talking, we the people struggling

Now they are sitting on a time bomb
Now I now the time has come
What goes up must come down
Goes around comes around
So much trouble in the world
So much trouble in the world
So much trouble in the world
There is so much trouble, there is so much trouble
There is so much trouble
There is so much trouble in the world
There is so much trouble in the world

Them belly full (But we hungry)

Them belly full but we hungry
A hungry mob is an angry mob
A rain a fall but the dirt it tough
A pot a cook but the food no 'nough

You're gonna dance to jah music, dance,
We're gonna dance to jah music, dance,

Forget your troubles and dance,
Forget your sorrows and dance,
Forget your sickness and dance,
Forget your weakness and dance

Cost of livin' gets so high
Rich and poor they start to cry
Now the weak must get strong
They say oh, what a tribulation
Them belly full but we hungry
A hungry mob is an angry mob
A rain a fall but the dirt it tough
A pot a cook but you no 'nough

We're gonna chuck to jah music chuckin'
We're chuckin' to jah music, we're chuckin'

Belly full but them hungry.
A hungry mob is an angry mob
A rain a fall but the dirt it tough
A pot a cook but the food no 'nough
A hungry mob is an angry mob

Rat race

Ah! Ya too rude
Oh what a rat race
Oh what a rat race
This is the rat race

Some a lawful, some a bastard, some a jacket
Oh what a rat race, rat race

Some a gorgan, some a hooligan, some a guine-gog
In this rat race, yeah!
Rat race
I'm singing
When the cats away
The mice will play
Political voilence fill ya city
Yea-ah!
Don't involve Rasta in your say say
Rasta don't work for no C.I.A.
Rat race, rat race, rat race
When you think is peace and safety
A sudden destruction
Collective security for surety
Yeah!

Don't forget your history
Know your destiny
In the abundance of water
The fool is thirsty
Rat race, rat race, rat race

Oh it's a disgrace to see the
Human-race in a rat race, rat race
You got the horse race
You got the dog race
You got the human-race
But this is a rat race, rat race

War / No more trouble

What life has taught me
I would like to share with
Those who want to learn...

Until the philosophy which hold one race
Superior and another inferior
Is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned
Everywhere is war, me say war

That until there are no longer first class
And second class citizens of any nation
Until the colour of a man's skin
Is of no more significance than the colour of his eyes
Me say war

That until the basic human rights are equally
Guaranteed to all, without regard to race
Dis a war

That until that day
The dream of lasting peace, world citizenship
Rule of international morality
Will remain in but a fleeting illusion
To be persued, but never attained
Now everywhere is war, war

And until the ignoble and unhappy regimes
that hold our brothers in Angola, in Mozambique,
South Africa sub-human bondage
Have been toppled, utterly destroyed
Well, everywhere is war, me say war

War in the east, war in the west
War up north, war down south
War, war, rumours of war

And until that day, the African continent
Will not know peace, we Africans will fight
We find it necessary and we know we shall win
As we are confident in the victory

Of good over evil, good over evil, good over evil
Good over evil, good over evil, good over evil

Roots

Roots Natty roots
Dread Binghi dread
I and I are the roots
Some are the dry wood

Fe catch up the fire
Whoa, Lo ok at that
They need some dry wood
To cook up the raw food
Whoa, look at that

I got to survive
Inna dis man maniac downpression
Got to survive
In iration, yeah
Roots Natty roots
Dread Binghi dread
Remember that I and I are the roots
Some are wolf
Inna sheep's clothing
Whoa, look at that
Many are called
But only a few are chosen
Whoa, look at that
Nothing that dividers can do
Can't seperate us from our father
Whoa, look at that
You see, blood is thicker than water
Whoa, look at that

Got to survive
inna disyah ghetto, yeah
Roots Natty roots
Dread Binghi dread
Remember that I and I are the roots
Roots Natty roots
Dread Binghi dread
Whoa, I and I are the roots
Some are leaves
While some are branches
But remember I and I are the roots
Some are dry wood
Fe catch up the fire
Whoa, look at that

Got to survive
Inna dis man maniac downpression
Got to survive
In iration
Roots Natty roots
Dread Binghi dread
Hey, I and I are the roots
Ooh we, roots Natty roots
Dread Binghi dread
Oh Yeah, I and I are the roots

Slave driver

Slave driver the table is turned
Catch a fire so you can get burned
Slave driver the table is turned
Catch a fire you're gonna get burned

Ev'ry time I hear a crack of the whip
My blood runs cold

I remember on the slave ship
How they brutalised their very souls
Today they say that we are free
Only to be chained in poverty

Good god, I think it's all illiteraci
It's only a machine that makes money
Slave driver the table is turned
Oh slave

Ride natty ride

Dready got a job to do
And he's got to fulfill that mission
To see his hurt is their
Greatest ambition
But we'll survive
In this world of competition
'Cause no matter what they do
Natty keep on comin thru
And no matter what they say
Natty de deh every day

Natty Dread rides again
Thru the mystics of tomorrow
Natty Dread rides again
Having no fear, having no sorrow

All and all you see a Gwan
Is to fight against Rastaman
So they build their world
In great confusion
To force on us the devil's illusion
But the stone that the builder refuse
Shall be the head cornerstone
And no matter what games they play
There is something they could never take away
Something they could never take away
It's the fire, it's the fire, fire
Burning down everything
Feel that fire, fire, the fire, the fire
Only the birds have wings
No time to be deceived
You should know and not believe
Jah says this judgement
Could never be with water
So no water could put out this fire
This this fire, this this fire
This this fire ride Natty ride
Go deh dready, go deh dready, go de

Now the fire is burning
Out of control panic in the city
Wicked weeping for their gold
Everywhere the fire is burning
Destroying and melting their gold
Destroying and waisting their souls

Ride Natty ride
Go deh dready, go deh dready
Go deh dready go de

Now the people gather on the beach
And the leader try to make a speach
But Dread again tell them it's too late
Fire is burning
Man pull your own weight
Fire is burning
Man pull your own weight
Natty dread rides again
Go deh Dready, go deh Dready, go deh
Oh ride Natty ride
Natty dread rides again
Go deh Dready, go deh, go deh Dready, go deh
Riding thru the storm
And we riding thru the calm
Go deh, go deh
We riding thru the thick
We riding thru the thin
Ride Natty, ride Natty

Crazy baldheads

Them crazy, them crazy
We gonna chase those crazy
Baldheads out of town
Chase those crazy baldheads
Out of town

I and I build a cabin
I and I plant the corn
Didn't my people before me
Slave for this country
Now you look me with a scorn
Then you eat up all my corn

We gonna chase those crazy baldheads
Chase them crazy
Chase those crazy baldheads out of town

Build your penitentiary, we build your schools
Brainwash education to make us the fools
Hate is your reward for our love
Telling us of your God above

We gonna chase those crazy
Chase those crazy bunkheads
Chase those crazy baldheads out of town

Here comes the conman
Coming with his con plan
We won't take no bribe, we got stay alive

We gonna chase those crazy
Chase those crazy baldheads
Chase those crazy baldheads out of town

Get up, stand up

Get up, stand up, stand up for your rights
Get up, stand up, stand up for your rights
Get up, stand up, stand up for your rights
Get up, stand up, don't give up the fight

Preacher man don't tell me
Heaven is under the earth
I know you don't know
What life is really worth
It's not all thm glitters is gold
Half the story has never been told
So now you see the light
Stand up for your rights

Get up, stand up, stand up for your rights
Get up, stand up, stand up for your rights
Get up, stand up, stand up for your rights
Get up, stand up, don't give up the fight

Most people think
Great good will come from the skies
Take away everything
And make everybody feel high
But if you know what life is worth
You would look for yours on earth
And now you've seen the light
You stand up for your rights
