Songs on the Corrs' Talk on Corners fly inoffensively past the window like scenery on a drive through the countryside, with two pretty singers at the wheel. This essentially Irish sister act (with Corr group Andrea, Caroline and Sharon on vocals, drums and violin, respectively, and brother Jim on guitar and keyboards) legitimately bring to mind comparisons with another family-based girl group, Wilson Phillips, particularly since the impulses and instincts are truly pop and not so much alt-traditional Celtic (as they are often cited to be). This timely record documents a high-riding point for the Corrs by re-releasing newly mixed versions of "What Can I Do?" and "So Young," both highly compressed digital productions featuring their trademark glass voices and barely discernible acoustic musical instruments. Also on the record: "Queen of Hollywood," "Runaway," "No Good for Me" and their huge international hit ballad "I Never Loved You Anyway." The best and most spirited Celtic cut is "Little Wing," deliciously resting on the contributions of the dropping-by Chieftains. Each and every cut sounds wired for radio play; unlike the less Americanized, riskier Cranberries, the Corrs should enjoy a career as nicely sustained as some of the girls' best musical notes.

Having created a worldwide sensation with their albums Forgiven, Not Forgotten and Talk on Corners, Ireland's Corrs await the hit that will break them wide open in America. To that end, the group (who've earned a Rolling Stones openers slot) has issued a retooled version of its sophomore set, featuring five songs recast by some of Europe's hottest mixmasters, including K-Klass ("So Young"), Tin Tin ("What Can I Do?" and "Runaway," the latter song being from the group's debut), and "Dreams" (the Stevie Nicks song, remixed by Todd Terry, who turned Everything but the Girl's "Missing" into a smash). The new mixes for the most part aren't radical departures from the originals but strip away some elements, and add some spit and polish to others. "Dreams" is notable for taking the song even harder toward the dance floor without losing its appealing Celtic edge. The rest of the album is the same as the original version of Talk on Corners minus a few tracks, but still including their lovely version of Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing."

The Corrs are three Irish sisters and one brother who have seduced the world as a pop band with local folk roots that they neither flaunt nor conceal. They tackle songs as though they've never heard of indirection: "It's reaching through my skin," lead singer Andrea Corr throbs on "Only When I Sleep," a tune about love and misery that, while missing the quicksilver genius of Natalie Imbruglia's "Torn," ascends to that level of passion. This record reconfigures the Corrs' second album, 1997's Talk on Corners, collecting vibrantly unclichTd remixes of tunes like "What Can I Do" and "So Young" by artisans such as K-Klass, Todd Terry and Tin Tin Out, as well as a spiffy revision of Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams." Producer Glen Ballard grounds the Corrs on "Queen of Hollywood," forcing an Alanis-like edge where it's unneeded, and the few unremixed David Foster productions are goofy. But otherwise, this is a high-flying reintroduction to some blue-chip popsters. (RS 809)

This Irish quartet of three comely sisters and their brother has a curious track record: After hitting it big in ten countries with FORGIVEN, NOT FORGOTTEN's delicately woven harmonies and Celtic-tinged violins, the Corrs then resurfaced with TALK ON CORNERS, which substituted techno-pop beats for pipes and folk melodies. On U.S. soil, this foursome seems to be aiming for something in between. TALK ON CORNERS: SPECIAL EDTION (a selection of songs from their two previous releases) draws equally on tradition ("Only When I Sleep," "Little Wing") and on a need to stay in step with current sounds, as evidenced by the dance-remix cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams" and by "What Can I Do," which tries to cover up its adult-contemporary roots with a head-bobbin' beat reminiscent of a New Edition song. This is highly crafted pop, and a stint on tour with the Stones -- paired with the current climate for pretty music -- says the Corrs have a sure shot of making it. Watch out, Sarah McLachlan.

ONLY WHEN I SLEEP

You're only just a dreamboat
Sailing in my head
You swim my secret oceans
Of coral blue and red
Your smell is incense burning
Your touch is silken yet
It reaches through my skin
And moving from within
It clutches at my breast

But it's only when I sleep
See you in my dreams
You got me spinning round and round
Turning upside-down
But I only hear you breathe

Somewhere in my sleep
Got me spinning round and round
Turning upside-down
But its only when I sleep

And when I wake from slumber
Your shadow's disappear
Your breath is just a sea mist
Surrounding my body
I'm workin' through the daytime
But when it's time to rest
I'm lying in my bed
Listening to my breath
Falling from the edge

But it's only when I sleep
See you in my dreams, (dreams)
You got me spinning round and round
Turning upside-down
But I only hear you breathe
Somewhere in my sleep, (in my sleep)
Got me spinning round and round
Turning upside-down
But its only when I sleep
It's only when I sleep

[Sharon & Andrea solo]

Up to the sky
Where angels fly
I'll never die
Hawaiian High
In bed I lie
No need to cry
My sleeping cry
Hawaiian High

It's reaching through my skin
Movin' from within
And clutches at my breasts...

But it's only when I sleep...
See you in my dreams, (dreams)
You got me spinning round and round
Turning upside-down
But I only hear you breathe

In bed I lie
No need to cry
My sleeping cry
Hawaiian High

But it's only when I sleep... aaaaaaa....
Got me spinning round and round
(Turning upside-down)

Up to the sky
Where angels fly
I'll never die
Hawaiian High
But it's only when I sleep...

WHEN HE'S NOT AROUND

I can't breathe, I can't sleep

He's uncool an unsophisticat
He's a tightrope walker on an open path
He's a maze of curiosity
He is the living bread that cures my appetite

I find that I can't breathe and I can't sleep
When he's not around
Everyday is bluey grey
When he's not in town

His mystique is one of innocence
I feel I'm lounging in lovely in his big blue eyes
And I would be preening in paradise
If I were always beside him like a Siamese

I find that I can't breathe and I can't sleep
When he's not around
Everyday is bluey grey
When he's not in town
When he's not in town

[solos]

Can I keep him in my galaxy
(Can I keep him in my galaxy)
Can he live within my fantasy
(Can he live within my fantasy)

I find that I can't breathe and I can't sleep
When he's not around
Everyday is bluey grey
When he's not in town

I find that I can't breathe and I can't sleep, (I can't sleep)
When he's not around
Everyday is bluey grey
When he's not in town
When he's not in town, Yeah-ie...

DREAMS

Now here you go again, you say you want your freedom
Well who am I to keep you down
It's only right that you should play the way you feel it
But listen carefully to the sound
Of your loneliness

Like a heartbeat drives you mad
In the stillness of remembering what you had
And what you lost

Yeah, thunder only happens when it's raining
Players only love you when they're playing
Yeah, women they will come and they will go
When the rain washes you clean you'll know, you'll know...

Now here I go again, I see the crystal visions
I keep my visions to myself
Well It's only me that wants to wrap around your dreams and
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell
Dreams of loneliness

Like a heartbeat drives you mad
In the stillness of remembering what you had
(Drives you mad,) and what you lost, (remember what you had)

Thunder only happens when it's raining
(Thunder only happens when it's...)
Players only love you when they're playing
(Players only love you when they're...)
Yeah, women they will come and they will go, (they will go...)
When the rain washes you clean you'll know...

Yeah, thunder only happens when it's raining
(Thunder only happens when it's...)
Players only love you when they're playing
(Players only love you when they're...)
Yeah, women they will come and they will go, (they will go...)

WHAT CAN I DO

I haven't slept at all in days
It's been so long since we've talked
And I have been here many times
I just don't know what I'm doing wrong

What can I do to make you love me
What can I do to make you care
What can I say to make you feel this
What can I do to get you there

There's only so much I can take
And I just got to let it go
And who knows I might feel better, yeah
If I don't try and I don't hope

What can I do to make you love me
What can I do to make you care
What can I say to make you feel this
What can I do to get you there

No more waiting, no more, aching...
No more fighting, no more, trying...

Maybe there's nothing more to say
And in a funny way I'm calm
Because the power is not mine
I'm just going to let it fly

What can I do to make you love me
(What can I do to make you love me)
What can I do to make you care
(What can I do to make you care)
What can I say to make you feel this
(What can I do to make you love me)
What can I do to get you there
(What can I do to make you care)
What can I do to make you love me
(What can I do to make you love me)
What can I do to make you care
(What can I do to make you care)
What can I change to make you feel this
(What can I do to make you love me)
What can I do to get you there
(What can I do to make you care)

And love me... love me...

I NEVER LOVED YOU ANYWAY

You bored me with your stories
I can't belive that I endured you for as long as I did
I'm happy, it's over, I'm only sorry
That I didn't make the move before you

And when you go I will remember
To send a thankyou note to that girl, (oh that girl)
I see she's holding you so tender
Well I just wanna say...
(Just wanna say...)

I never really loved you anyway
No I didn't love you anyway
I never really loved you anyway
I'm so glad you're moving away

Valentino, I don't think so
You watching MTV while I lie dreaming in an MT bed
And come to think of it
I was misled
My flat, my food, my everything
And thoughts inside my head

Before you go I must remember
To have a quiet word with that girl
(Oh that girl)
Does she know you're not a spender
Well I just have to say...
(Just wanna say...)

I never really loved you anyway
No I didn't love you anyway
I never really loved you anyway
I'm so happy you're moving away

Yeah, I am

[Andrea and Sharon solo]

Yeah, I am

[Andrea and Sharon solo]

(And when you go I will remember)
I must remember to say...

I never really loved you anyway
No I didn't love you anyway
I never really loved you anyway
I never really loved you anyway
Never really loved you anyway
(I never really loved you anyway)
No I didn't love you anyway
(Never loved you anyway)
Never truly loved you anyway
(I Never loved you anyway)
I'm so happy you're moving away
Yeah I'm delighted you're moving away

SO YOUNG

Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah
Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah
We are taking it easy
Bright and breezy, yeah
We are living it up
Just fine and dandy, yeah

And it really doesn't matter that we don't eat
And it really doesn't matter if we never sleep
No it really doesn't matter, really doesn't matter at all

Coz we are so young now, we are so young, so young now
And when tommorow comes, we can do it all again

We are chasin' the moon
Just running wild and free
We are following through
Every dream and every need

And it really doesn't matter that we don't eat
And it really doesn't matter if we never sleep
No it really doesn't matter, really doesn't matter at all

Coz we are so young now, we are so young, so young now
And when tommorow comes, we can do it all again
Yeah, we are so young now, we are so young, so young now
And when tommorow comes, we'll just do it all again
All again, all again, yeah, all again, all again..., Yeah, Yeah, Yeah
So young now, we are so young, so young now
And when tommorow comes, we'll just do it all again
Yeah, we are so young now, we are so young, so young now
And when tommorow comes, we'll just do it all again
We are so young... (Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah-ie Yeah)

DON'T SAY YOU LOVE ME

I've seen this place a thousand times
I've felt this all before
And every time you call
I've waited there as though you might not call at all

I know this face I'm wearing now
I've seen this in my eyes
And though it feels so great, I'm still afraid
That you'll be leaving anytime

We've done this once and then you closed the door
Don't let me fall again for nothing more

Don't say you love me unless forever
Don't tell me you need me, if you're not gonna stay
Don't give me this feeling, I'll only believe it
Make it real or take it all away

I've caught myself smiling alone
Just thinking of your voice
And dreaming of your touch, is all too much
You know I don't have any choice

Don't say you love me unless forever
Don't tell me you need me, if you're not gonna stay
Don't give me this feeling, I'll only believe it
Make it real or take it all away...
Yeah, yeah yeah

We've done this once and then you closed the door
Don't let me fall again for nothing more

Don't say you love me unless forever
Don't tell me you need me, if you're not gonna stay
Don't give me this feeling, I'll only believe it
Make it real or take it all away

(Say you love me...)
Don't tell me you need me, if you're not gonna stay
Don't give me this feeling, I'll only believe it
Make it real, (make it real,) or take it all away
Take it all away, take it all away...

LOVE GIVES LOVE TAKES

Just when I thought I was safe
You found me in my hiding place
I'd promised never again
I wouldn't give my heart, but then
Closer, closer I moved near you
The way I want you makes me fear you

Love breaks and love divides
Love laughs and love can make you cry
I can't believe the ways
That love can give
And love can take away

I find it hard to explain
It's crazy but it's happening
And I'm falling again
Much further than I've ever been
I'm falling deeper than the ocean
I am lost in this emotion

Love breaks and love divides
Love laughs and love can make you cry
I can't believe the ways
That love can give
And love can take away

Ahh, Oh yeah (x3)

Love can give
And love can take away, (take away)

Love breaks and love divides
Love laughs and love can make you cry, (love can make you cry)
I can't believe the ways
That love can give
And love can take away
Love breaks and love divides
Love laughs and love can make you cry
I can't believe the ways
That love can give
And love can take away

HOPELESSLY ADDICTED

Opened my eyes today
And I knew there's something different
Saw you in a brand new way
Like the clouds had somehow lifted
And if yesterday I heard
Myself saying these words
I would swear it was a lie

I don't know why..., but suddenly I'm falling
(na na na, na na na na na)
Was I so blind...
I was loving you all the time
Now I'm hopelessly addicted
Helplessly attracted

I'll make a wish this day
And I'll send it to the heavens
That we will always stay
Entwined like this forever
And though the world may change
Coz nothing stays the same
I know we will survive

I don't know why..., but suddenly I'm falling
(na na na, na na na na na)
Was I so blind...
I was loving you all the time
Now I'm hopelessly addicted
Naturally we acted

I don't know why..., but suddenly I'm falling
(na na na, na na na na na)
I was so blind...
I was loving you all the time
And now I'm
Hopelessly addicted
Helplessly attracted
(na na na, na na na na na)
Chemically reacted
I was loving you all the time
Hopelessly addicted
Helplessly attracted
Chemically reacted
Naturally we acted

INTIMACY

Last night before you fell asleep
You whispered something to me
Was it just a dream
I'm gonna listen to you close
Coz your goodnight kiss
Felt like a ghost

What are you trying to say to me
What are you trying to say

Everybody's searching for intimacy
Ooh ooh ooh ooh
Everybody's hurting for intimacy
Ooh ooh ooh ooh
Hey yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

We come into this world alone
From the heart of darkness
The infinite unknown
We're only here a little while
And I feel safe and warm
When I see your smile

Baby don't move away from me
Baby don't pull away

Everybody's searching for intimacy
Ooh ooh ooh ooh
Everybody's hurting for intimacy
Ooh ooh ooh ooh

Remember when you were a child
And your momma would hold you in her arms
And rock you to sleep
Now darling there's just you and I
Let's give each other everything, baby, baby, baby...

Everybody's searching for intimacy
Ooh ooh ooh ooh
Everybody's hurting for intimacy
Ooh ooh ooh ooh
Baby come and lay down next to me
Ooh ooh ooh ooh
Everybody's searching for intimacy
Ooh ooh ooh ooh
Hey yeah, yeah yeah yeah

QUEEN OF HOLLYWOOD

She drove a long way through the night
From an urban neighborhood
She left her mother in a fight
For a dream misunderstood
And her friends they talk on corners
They could never comprehend

But there was always something different
In the way she held a stare
And the pictures that she painted
Were of glamour and of flair
And her boyfriend though he loved her
Knew he couldn't quite fulfill
He could never meet her there

She's never gonna be like the one before
She read it in her stars that there's something more
No matter what it takes, no matter how she breaks
She'll be the Queen of Hollywood

And the cynics they will wonder
What's the difference with this dream
And the dreams of countless others
All believing in TV
They see their handprints in a sidewalk
Flashing cameras on the scene
And a shining limousine

She's never gonna be like the one before
She read it in her stars that there's something more
No matter what it takes, no matter how she breaks
She'll be the Queen of Hollywood
She's believing in a dream
(Queen of Hollywood)
It's a loaded fantasy, yeah, yeah, yeah...

Now her mother collects cut-outs
And the pictures make her smile
But if she saw behind the curtains
It could only make her cry
She's got hand prints on her body
Sad moonbeams in her eyes
not so innocent a child

She's never gonna be like the one before
She read it in her stars that there's something more
No matter what it takes no matter how she breaks
She'll be the Queen of Hollywood, (Queen of Hollywood)
No she's never gonna be like the one before
She read it in her stars that there's something more
No matter what it takes and even though she breaks
She'll be the Queen of Hollywood
She's the Queen of Hollywood...
Queen of Hollywood, (Queen of Hollywood) and
Her friends still talk On Corners, (Queen of Hollywood)
Yeah yeah yeah-ie...

NO GOOD FOR ME

I see a home in a quiet place
I see myself in a strong embrace
And I feel protection from the human race
It's not parental

But it's a fantasy, not a reality
And it's no good, no, no good for me, you have no idea

That I'm walking through the clouds
When you're looking at me
I'm feeling like a child
Vulnerability
I am shaking like a leaf if you move beside me
And you're all that I see
But it's no good for me

You have a home, (You have a home,) in a quiet place
And someone else, feels your strong embrace
She is protected and she needs no chase
And do you love her

You're a mystery, you are the heart of intrigue
You're no good no, no good for me
You have no idea

That I'm walking through the clouds
When you're looking at me
I'm feeling like a child
Vulnerability
I am shaking like a leaf if you move beside me
And you're all that I see
But it's no good for me
No it's no good for me..., yeah, no good for me...

[Sharon violin solo]

It's a make-believe, you have no idea
That I'm walking through the clouds
When you're looking at me
I'm feeling like a child
Vulnerability
I am shaking like a leaf if you move close to me
And you're all that I see
But it's no good for me, just no good, no good

When you're looking at me
I'm feeling like a child
Vulnerability
I am shaking like a leaf if you move beside to me
And you're all that I see

She gives to me, free
It's alright, it's alright' she says
