The appropriately named Corrs are an Irish pop group consisting of
Andrea Corr on lead vocals and tin whistle; Caroline Corr on drums,
bodhran, and vocals; Jim Corr on keyboards, guitar, and vocals; and
Sharon Corr on violin and vocals. The traditional Irish instruments
like the bodhran and tin whistle add a twist to the pop melodies of
tracks like the title track and "The Right Time," where they are
allowed some solo time. The Irish musical background of the band
members is most obviously heard in Sharon Corr's violin work, used here
more like a traditional Irish fiddle than a true classical violin.
There are glimpses of the Corrs' skill as instrumentalists on tracks
like "Erin Shore," the introduction on the album. There are a few of
these instrumentals placed throughout the album, but unfortunately,
none are much longer than two minutes. The focus is on the adult
contemporary mid-tempo songs. The Corrs are more reminiscent of vocal
pop group Wilson Phillips than traditional Irish bands like the
Chieftains.
With one foot in traditional Irish music and the other in smooth,
sophisticated pop, the Corrs--a family quartet made up of three sisters
and their brother--seem to have all the bases covered. On their
appealing debut album, the group plays it both ways, leading with
fetching love songs such as "Runaway" and the title track but
incorporating fiddle, tin whistle, and bodhrán into nearly every
track while tossing in snippets of traditional-leaning material such as
"Carraroe Jig" and "Erin Shore" for good measure. Imagine the Spice
Girls if they could play their own instruments and were inclined to do
so down at the local pub. If that seems like a stretch, listen to the
gossamer strains of "Heaven Knows" or "The Right Time" while downing a
few pints. You'll eventually see the connection.
Daniel Durchholz, Amazon.com
Four times platinum in their homeland, Forgiven, Not Forgotten, the
debut from Ireland's cosy, family four-piece, took lilting Celtic folk
away from the craggy old men in cardigans and gave it a glamorous, MTV
make-over. All very nicely air-brushed, it's perfect Top Of The Pops
fare, even spawning the hit single "Runaway"--a song which, when given
the Top 40 sheen by producers Tin Tin Out, provided a staple diet for
commercial radio programmers for the best part of six months. Forgiven,
Not Forgotten is the first word in fiddles, jigs and whistles--but for
young people, you understand. There are no rough edges on the likes of
"Someday" or "The Right Time". Still, some elegant traditional
instrumentals make a diverting change from the bland, cultureless
pop-lite of endless boy-band clones.
Louis Pattison, Amazon.co.uk Review
This Irish family band's sound is a slightly trad-influenced version of
slick pop-vocal groups like Wilson Phillips. Behind all the digital
processing and over-compression it is possible to hear a stray tin
whistle here and there, and the songs are interspersed with snippets of
trad tunes, but this is much more of a commercial pop recording than a
folky one.
Dave Beltane - February 1, 1996 Dirty Linen (2-3/96, p.75)
Time".
New York im Studio weilt.
Instrumentals wie "Erin Shore" oder "Along With The Girls" umrahmen
Pop-Ohrwürmer à la "Runaway". Dieser Clan empfiehlt sich
als Kelly Family für Anspruchsvolle.
All alone, staring on
Watching her life go by
When her days are grey
And her nights are black
Different shades of mundane
And the one eyed furry toy
That lies upon the bed
Has often heard her cry
And heard her whisper out a name
Long forgiven, but not forgotten
You're forgiven not forgotten
You're forgiven not forgotten
You're forgiven not forgotten
You're not forgotten
A bleeding heart torn apart
Left on an icy grave
In the room where they once lay
Face to face
Nothing could get in their way
But now the memories of the man are haunting her days
And the craving never fades
She's still dreaming of a man
Long forgiven, but not forgotten
You're forgiven not forgotten
You're forgiven not forgotten
You're forgiven not forgotten
You're not forgotten
Still alone, staring on
Wishing her life goodbye
As she goes searching for the man
Long forgiven, but not forgotten
You're forgiven not forgotten
You're forgiven not forgotten
You're forgiven not forgotten
You're forgiven not forgotten
You're forgiven not forgotten
You're forgiven not forgotten
You're forgiven not forgotten
You're forgiven not forgotten
You're not forgotten
You're not forgotten
No, You're not forgotten
HEAVEN KNOWS
Deep, deep in our hearts
Strangers apart
Oh please come back to me
No more to leave
Never to grieve
I give my world to you
Send, send her away to her grieving
I will never set you free
No more, no more a life without meaning
You and I will fly away to
Love in my mind, Love in my soul
I just can't let go
Sadness fills my life
Oh my fruitless plight
Only heaven knows
Tears, tears in the night
Sorrow take flight
Oh please come back to me
In each we believe
Never to grieve
I give my world to you
Send, send her away to her grieving
I will never set you free
No more, no, no more a life without meaning
You and I will fly to
Love, in my mind, love in my soul
I just can't let go
Sadness fills my life
Oh my fruitless plight
Only heaven knows
Sadness fills my life
Sadness fills my life, oh
Sadness fills my life
Sadness fills my life, oh, oh, oh, oh
Send, oh send her away to her grieving
You and I will fly away to
Love in my mind, love in my soul
I just can't let go
Sadness fills my life
Oh my fruitless plight
Only heaven knows
Love in my mind, love in my soul
I just can't let go
Sadness fills my life
Oh my fruitless plight
Only heaven knows (heaven Knows)
Love in my mind, love in my soul
I just can't let go (heaven knows)
Sadness fills my life
Oh my fruitless plight
Only heaven knows (heaven Knows)

ALONG WITH THE GIRLS
(Instrumental)
SOMEDAY
Fragments of our love
That's all we have
What we had was fantasy
Dreams and photographs
Hypnotic melodies
Could sing our song
A comfortable rhythm
In a comfortless room
(How do you know when love is gone)
There's so much more within me
(How do you know the passion's gone)
I know I just don't feel it
(How do you know when love is gone)
Oh baby
(How do you know the passion's gone)
I know we have to move along
(Someday you'll forget me)
Someday you'll forget me
(Someday you'll forget me)
Someday you'll forget me
A fragrant memory
Is soon to fade
We lived a love of make-believe
Dreams and fairytales
Now we say goodbye
Habitual romance
A rose without her petals
And a song without a dance
(How do you know when love is gone)
There's so much more within me
(How do you know the passion's gone)
I know I just don't feel it
(How do you know when love is gone)
Oh baby
(How do you know the passion's gone)
I know we have to move along
(Someday you'll forget me)
Someday you'll forget me
(Someday you'll forget me)
Someday you'll forget me
(How do you know when love is gone)
There's so much more within me
(How do you know the passion's gone)
I know we have to move along...
(Someday you'll forget me)
Someday you'll forget me
(Someday you'll forget me)
Someday you'll forget me
(Someday you'll forget me)
Someday you'll forget me

Someday you'll forget me
(Someday you'll forget me)
Someday you'll forget me

RUNAWAY
Say it's true, there's nothing like me and you
I'm not alone, tell me you feel it too
And I would run away
I would run away, yeah..., yeah
I would run away
I would run away with you
Cause I am falling in love with you
No never I'm never gonna stop
Falling in love with you
Close the door, lay down upon the floor
And by candlelight, make love to me through the night
(through the night, through the night...)
Cause I have run away
I have run away, yeah..., yeah
I have run away, run away
I have run away with you
Cause I am falling in love (falling in love) with you
No never I'm never gonna stop
Falling in love with you...
With you...
And I would runaway
I would runaway, yeah..., yeah
I would runaway (runaway)
I would runaway with you
Cause I am falling in love (falling in love) with you
No never I'm never gonna stop
Falling in love with you...
Falling in love (falling in love) with you
No never I'm never gonna stop falling in love with you
With you, my love, with you...

THE RIGHT TIME
This is the right time
Once in a lifetime
So I find it hard to sleep
Don't you know
The sun is shinin' in my window
Life's in flow
Makin' music in the morning
Laughter's light
Creativity touches
In full flight
This is the right time, once in a lifetime
Keep it going, let's not lose it
Feel the flow
Ohhhh, flying free in a fantasy
With you I'll go
This is the right time
Once in a lifetime
Now something has entered my mind
Shattering all of my thoughts
It's no good, it's just one big waste of my time
But what can I do to recall...
This is the right time, once in a lifetime
This is the right time, once in a lifetime
This is the right time, once in a lifetime
This is the right time, once in a lifetime
This is the right time, once in a lifetime

LOVE TO LOVE YOU
I would love to love you like you do me
I'd love to love you like you do me
There's a pillar in my way you see
I'd love to love you like you do me
I met you on a sunny Autumn day
You instantly attracted me
When asking for the way
God if I had known the pain I'd make you feel
I would have stopped this thought of us
And turned upon my heel
(Go you should leave me)
Time make it be alright
(Go you must leave me)
Time will help you see the light
(You don't need me)
Time make it be alright
(Go you must leave me)
Believe me when I tell you
I would love to love you like you do me
I'd love to love you like you do me
There's a pillar in my way you see
I'd love to love you like you do me
You recognised my barrier to love
I know there's nothing worse
Than unrequited love,(unrequited love)
So I prayed to God that I could give the love you gave to me
But something's lying in my way, preventing it to be
(Go you should leave me)
Time make it be alright
(Go you must leave me)
Believe me when I tell you
I would love to love you like you do me
I'd love to love you like you do me
There's a pillar in my way you see
I'd love to love you like you do me
I would love to love you like you do me
I'd love to love you like you do me
There's a pillar in my way you see
I'd love to love you like you do me
Break those pillars down
Break those pillars down
Take those pillars down, down, down
Oh, take those pillars down
(Love to love you like you do me)
Break those pillars down
(Love to love you like you do me)
Oh take those pillars down
(Love to love you)
(Love to love you)
(Love to love you)
Take those pillars down

SECRET LIFE
From red giant to supernova
Back to you and me
A cloaked entity within
A virtual reality
Mechanised and organised
To me it's plain to see
The hand that's been busy
Weaving fantasy
It's so hard to understand
And often we are blind
But if truth were an ocean
Would it fit in the pool of a human mind
You're all alone
And it doesn't seem quite fair
Why we're all left in ignorance
Turning to despair (turning to despair...)
Philosophy and theology
Offer us a glimpse
At something more incredible (incredible)
Than you and I
So call on the secret life
Call on the secret life
Show me the way of life
Bring on the secret life
Evangelists, scientologists
And others I won't mention
Offer lessons in codology
To all with good intention (intention)
Listen at your peril
Put your soul in detention
Resensitise yourself
To this incredible dimension
When you're all alone
And it doesn't seem quite fair
Why we're all left in ignorance
Turning to despair (turning to despair)
Philosophy and theology
Offer us a glimpse
At something more incredible (incredible)
Than you and I
So call on the secret life
Call on the secret life
Show me the way of life
Bring on the secret life
