Recorded at Angel Studios; British Grove; Lightning Sound Studio; Northern Sky Studios; Pink Deer Studio, Los Angeles, CA; Swinghouse Studios, Los Angeles, CA.

Some Kind of Trouble is the third studio album from British singer-songwriter James Blunt. The album was released on 8 November 2010. The album's lead single, "Stay the Night", was released on 25 October 2010. The album was recorded in Blunt's private recording studio in Los Angeles. The album debuted at #4 in the UK with over 100,000 copies sold on the first week and has received mixed reviews from critics.[5] Blunt will promote the album with a new tour, due to start in 2011. As of February 2011, the album had sold over one million copies worldwide.

Dispensing with the brooding insularity of 2007’s sophomore affair All the Lost Souls, James Blunt opts for optimism on his third album, 2010’s Some Kind of Trouble. The shift in tenor is immediately apparent on the jaunty acoustic opener “Stay the Night” and the slick, sleek pulse of “Dangerous,” a song tailor-made for upscale cocktail hours, and if Blunt occasionally slows the tempo, he never strays from this aesthetic, never letting his ballads drift into the morose. In a sense, this lightness suggests that Blunt has succumbed to his role as a MOR crooner, as there are no attempts at David Grey profundity as there were on All the Lost Souls, but ultimately, this is for the best because Blunt’s strength is his embrace of soft rock cliché, whether he’s murmuring about a “Heart of Gold” over crawling chords, or cheerfully bouncing along on “I’ll Be Your Man.” Occasionally, he is hamstrung by the incessant, inherent whine in his voice, which always benefits from the dressing of production, and which is why the propulsive tunes here, like “These Are the Words” are the best. But Some Kind of Trouble is a step in the right direction for Blunt, a move toward love songs free of pretension.

Stephen Thomas Erlewine - All Music Guide

Der Mann macht es anscheinend nicht unterhalb von Platz 1 in den Charts. Nur in den Staaten, dem Land des Soft Rocks, muss sich der Brite mit Top-10-Placierungen begnügen. Zumindest, was die Longplayer angeht.

When James Blunt released his second album, All the Lost Souls, in 2007, critical attention focused on lead single 1973 and, in particular, the line "As time goes by I will always be in a club with you in 1973, singing Here We Go Again". "But he wasn’t alive in 1973," they said. "And what’s this Here We Go Again? Does he mean Whitesnake’s Here I Go Again? That hadn’t even been recorded." Talk about playing the man, not the ball. Essentially, You’re Beautiful isn’t easily forgiven; a crime heinous enough to deny a singer artistic licence. Not that any of this mattered one jot to Captain Blunt, who went on selling millions of records, squiring lovely ladies the world over and being a thoroughly good egg on Sesame Street. Prejudice ignored All the Lost Souls’ good points, which included a serviceable slice of classic pop in the maligned 1973 and generally decent Elton John-indebted melodies across the rest of its easy-listening tracks. Nothing any more awful than Blunt’s own tremulous whine. But while that voice retains its special majesty here, Some Kind of Trouble can’t match its predecessor’s virtues. Its lack of life is a problem. The single Stay the Night is a deceptively bright introduction, a joyous bit of fluff that sees Blunt waiting to make his move at a California party ("We’ve all been singing Billie Jean" – at least that’s plausible, right?). It’s followed by the similarly perky Dangerous, which somehow marries Michael Sembello’s Flashdance soundtrack fave Maniac with Chesney Hawkes’ The One and Only, but Blunt then surrenders to familiar, soupy balladeering. Best Laid Plans teems with cliché ("It seems you only want the things that you can’t have") and some David Gilmour-lite guitar noodles that also rear up on Superstar, So Far Gone and No Tears. That last title belies lachrymosity that could float a battleship. Still, this is what you get with James Blunt, isn’t it? Teary, mid-paced pleas for a lover’s forgiveness. And it’s not as if the melodies have deserted entirely: noodles aside, Superstar’s appealing falsetto chorus shakes things up a bit, and If Time Is All I Have is suitably anthemic, this time tuning the guitars to George Harrison. When all’s said, Some Kind of Trouble is not a terrible record by any means, but there’s little sense that Blunt has advanced – and equally little sense that it’ll make any difference to his bottom line.

Stay The Night

Ooooooh, Oooooooh, Ooooooh, hey!

It's 72 degrees
Zero chance of rain
It's been a perfect day
We're all spinning on our heels
So far away from real
In California

We watched the sunset from our car
We all took it in
And by the time that it was dark
You and me had something, yeah!

And if this is what we've got
Then what we've got is gold
We're shining bright and I want you
I want you to know

The morning's on it's way
Our friends all say goodbye
There's nowhere else to go
I hope that you'll stay the night
Ooooooh, you'll stay the night
Ooooooh, yeah!

We've been singing Billie Jean
Mixin' vodka with caffeine
We've got strangers stopping by
And though you're out of tune
Girl you blow my mind, you do
And I'll say as I don't wanna say good night

There's no quiet corner
To get to know each other
And there's no hurry
I'm a patient man is your discover

Cause if this is what we've got
Then what we've got is gold
We're shining bright and I want you
I want you to know

The morning's on it's way
Our friends all say goodbye
There's nowhere else to go
I hope that you'll stay the night
Ooooooh, you'll stay the night
Ooooooh, yeah!

Just like the song on our radio set
We'll share the shelter of my single bed
But it's a different tune that's stuck in my head
And it goes...

If this is what we've got
Then what we've got is gold
We're shining bright and I want you
I want you to know

The morning's on it's way
Our friends all say goodbye
There's nowhere else to go
I hope that you'll stay the night

If this is what we've got
Then what we've got is gold
We're shining bright and I want you
I want you to know

The morning's on it's way
Our friends all say goodbye
There's nowhere else to go
I hope that you'll stay the night

Dangerous

I'll be standing in the corner
Just watching her slaughter them
See you all go wild
I've been dipping in my finger
Testing out the water
See you on the other side

[Chorus]
She is dangerous, she is dangerous, I'm sure (woah)
And she's all dressed up and knocking at my door (woah)
She is dangerous, she is dangerous, I know (woah)
But she's got my heart and she's never letting go

I'll be hanging on your heartache
Enough rope for my sake and losing everytime
I'll be wrapped around your finger, let the moment linger
See you on the other side

[Chorus]

And we all get a taste for blood tonight
Coz we've all had a taste of love
And we all get a taste for blood tonight
For love

[Chorus]

Best Laid Plans

You don't like it in the shadows
You won't let me shine a light
I would wash away your troubles
But it seems
The more that I hold on
The more that you let go
And I know, you better let somebody love you
or find yourself, on your own

Tell me why all the best laid plans
fall apart in your hands
And my good intentions never end,
the way I meant

If we don't talk about the future
Then should I just, follow you into the dark
Yeah, and does your silence keep you cool
While the cracks form on my heart

Tell me why all the best laid plans
fall apart in your hands
And my good intentions never end,
the way I meant

It seems to me some fine friends have watched you turn your back
It seems you only want the things that you can't have.

Tell me why all the best laid plans
fall apart in your hands
And my good intentions never end,
the way I meant

So Far Gone

Tell me the wars you're fighting
Behind the smile you're hiding
All the things I know you want to say

We tried our best to find us
But there are no lights to guide us
I can't sleep beside a stranger now

Piece by piece we fall apart
With every beat slows down my heart

[Chorus]
So I'll just say what you won't say
and I'll take the blame if it is for your sake
No turning back on what you can't save

So far gone
Yeah, we're so far gone

I've tried hard to remember
This prison cell used to be a shelter
Now we're just looking for the best way out
I can't fight you anymore
You're already one foot out the door

[Chorus]
So I'll just say what you won't say
and I'll take the blame if it is for your sake
No turning back on what you can't save

So far gone,
yeah we're so far gone

And this is the face of letting go
And these are things we already know

So I'll say what you won't say
and I'll take the blame if it is for your sake
No turning back on what you can't save

so far gone
we're so far gone

So I'll say what you won't say
and I'll take the blame if it is for your sake
No turning back on what you can't save

So far gone,
yes we're so far gone
yes we're so far gone
So I'll just what you won't say

No Tears

Don't I know it? Nobody has to say
I've been lucky. Guess I was born that way.
I thank my father, his absence has made me strong.
And I love my mother but she had troubles with God.

[CHORUS:]
No tears for the life that you've led
You've had angels in your head
Did you hear them singing in the end
All the things that you've seen
All the things that could have been
Well I've been everything I want to be
So, no tears, no tears for me

Yeah, I've bathed in sunshine but cherished the fading light
And I heard my heartbeat faulter on a winter's night
I loved a woman but she didn't hear my prayers
So Lord, oh Lord, I'm yours
No tears

[CHORUS]

Cause someone somewhere's going home tonight
Trying to understand the sacrifice
So save your tears for those left behind

[CHORUS]

Superstar

There is an empty space in the chair tonight
Cause he don't feel right
There are stormclouds brewing at the back of his mind
As he steps outside

He will be twenty in a week
But he's old for his years
He's had many of those
To confront his own fears

But his father's not the man he'd like to grow up to be
And his mother isn't growing old gracefully

He says times like these I don't want to be a superstar
Cause reality tv killed them all in america
Oh the sun always shines in a magazine
Tonight can we be free to be who we really are

There is an empty space between the lines tonight
And it burns so bright
And the angry silence that he throws on the floor
Says he don't care anymore

He had money for the truth
But love's a lot more
And the answer's is not the one he was looking for
His father's not the man he'd like to grow up to be
And his mother is his mother reluctantly

He says times like these I don't want to be a superstar
Cause reality tv killed them all in america
Oh the sun always shines in a magazine
Tonight can we be free to be who we really are

He says times like these I don't want to be a superstar
Cause reality tv killed them all in america
Oh the sun always shines in a magazine
Tonight can we be free to be who we really are

These Are The Words

Tender was my lover from the suburbs of town
We were sweethearts from college she was always around
We were good for each other but some things they just don't work out

There were tears in my eyes when she walked away
We had plans to get married some day
But the promises were broken before they were even made:

Now I'm dancing with a broken heart
Ain't no doctor who can make it start
These are the words that I'll never gonna say again
Because I've given till I've given up
One more casualty of easy love
These are the words that I'll never gonna say again

Tender was my lover, god I miss her embrace
And I wonder who it is that puts a smile on her face
I recall the way she feels and oh I recall the way she tastes
If I could hold her now then all that I'd see'd
remind me of childhood memories
She was the first day of summer, yeah that girl, that girl's for me

Now I'm dancing with a broken heart
Ain't no doctor who can make it start
These are the words that I'll never gonna say again

Because I've given till I've given up
One more casualty of easy love
These are the words that I'll never gonna say again

And these are the words that I say to your picture
These are the words that I say in a dream
These are the words that I wish I'd said to you
when you were standing here next to me

Because I've given till I've given up
One more casualty of easy love
These are the words that I'll never gonna say again

Oooh now I'm dancing with a broken heart
Ain't no doctor who can make it start
These are the words that I'll never gonna say again

Now I'm dancing with a broken heart
Ain't no doctor who can make it start
These are the words that I'll never gonna say again

Calling Out Your Name

Well you can stand there waiting for a rainy day
Close up your heart and hide your dancing shoes away
And cut yourself with your mistakes
Leave all hope lying in a line of chalk
Everything you need is disguised in double talk
So wound yourself and let it ache

But if you're waiting for something to bring you round

[Chorus]
I'm calling out, I'm calling out your name
Lift your head up high
I'm calling out, I'm calling out your name
Lift your head up high

It's all little pieces till there's nothing left
All just debris of your former self
Just take a breath for your own sake
And if you're watching for something to bring you round

[Chorus]
I'm calling out, I'm calling out your name
Lift your head up high
I'm calling out, I'm calling out your name
Lift your head up high

And are you caught between the lines
Did no one see you fall behind

[Chorus]
I'm calling out, I'm calling out your name
Lift your head up high
I'm calling out, I'm calling out your name
Lift your head up high

Heart Of Gold

This time her mind is made up
Yeah, she's moving on
Tonight her spirit's crushed
It's 'cause she don't belong

Maybe she thinks too much
She thinks she's given enough
Only now they'll know she's got a heart of gold
Always looking for love
She's beginning to think she's cursed
On her looks she judged
By the folks at work

She don't care for fashion and fame
Those kind of people they are all the same
One day they'll know, she's got a heart of gold

And she sings, I want to know what love is
But it seems to come with so much pain
If no one wants to show me
It seems easier just to run away
When I am gone it's just a penny for my soul

But God he knows, I got a heart of gold
Been coming 'round here
Since she's a little girl
But now the change is clear
We live in a cynical world

She don't care for fashion and fame, no
Those kind of people they are all the same
They don't wanna know, she's got a heart of gold

And she sings, I want to know what love is
But it seems to come with so much pain
If no one wants to show me
It seems easier just to run away
When I am gone it's just a penny for my soul
But God he knows, I got a heart of gold

To see her footsteps in the snow

And she sings, I want to know what love is
But it seems to come with so much pain
If no one wants to show me
It seems easier just to run away
When I am gone it's just a penny for my soul
But God he knows, I got a heart of gold

I'll Be Your Man

Too many voices
Too many noises
Invisible wires keeping us apart
So many choices
But their all disappointments
And they only steal me away from you
Climb into our private bubble
Let's get into all kinds of trouble

[Chorus]
Slide over here let your hands feel the way
There's no better method to communicate
So girl stop your talking
Words just get in the way
I'll be your man

So baby come over
From the end of the sofa
I'll be your man
I'll be your man

So many faces
Staring at their shoelaces
When all anyone want is to be seen
So tonight let's be honest
We all want to be wanted
And darlin' you've got me wantin' you
Everything that I'm trying to say
Just sounds like a worn out cliche, so...

[Chorus]

What are we all looking for?
Someone we just can't ignore
It's real love dripping from my heart,
You've got me tripping
What are we all looking for?
Ooooooh....

[Chorus]

If Time Is All I Have

When you wake up
Turn the radio on
And you'll hear this simple song

That I made up
That I made up for you

When you're driving
Turn the radio up
Cause I can't sing loud enough
Hard these days
To get my message through

If time is all I have
I'll waste it all on you

Each day I'll turn it back
It's what the broken-hearted do
I'm tired of talking to an empty space
Of silences keeping me awake

When you marry
And you look around
I'll be somewhere in that crowd
Torn up, that it isn't me

When you're older
The memories fade
But I know I'll still feel the same
For as long as I live

But if time is all I have
I'll waste it all on you

Each day I'll turn it back
It's what the broken-hearted do
I'm tired of talking to an empty space
Of silences keeping me awake

Won't you say my name, one time
Please just say my name

But if time is all I have
I'll waste it all on you
Each day I'll turn it back
It's what the broken-hearted do
I'm tired of talking to an empty space
Of silences keeping me awake

If time is all I have
I'll waste it all on you

Each day I'll turn it back
It's what the broken-hearted do
I'm tired of talking to an empty space
Of silences keeping me awake

Won't you say my name
When the song is over

Turn Me On

I'm a boy and she's a girl
And we're gonna do this around the world
Catch her heart and count to five
And remember everybody dies you know,

I'm not her friend no, not second best
I'll send her home unless they're both in it
Together having had both of each other
That's my kinda party!
That's my kinda party!

I'm a boy and she's a girl
And we've all known this around the world
Around the world
Around the world
Around the world

So, why get complicated?
You know you wanna turn me on.
Why get complicated?
You know wanna turn me on.

Underwater, with someone's daughter
Gonna make you a dirty woman!
And when we both hold it together

And both in each other
That's my kinda party!
That's my kinda party!

I'm a boy and she's a girl
And we're all doing this around the world
Around the world
Around the world
Around the world

So, why get complicated?
You know you wanna turn me on.
Why get complicated
You know you wanna turn me on.

Why get complicated?
You know you wanna turn me on.
Why get complicated?
You know you wanna turn me on.
Why get complicated?
You know you wanna turn me on.
Why get complicated?
You know you wanna turn me on.
