Obviously, "Summer Of 69" is here - the blue-collar rock anthem that made Bryan Adams' name as Springsteen's main contender and stoked the fires of many a young man's rock & roll dreams. But The Best Of Me demonstrates that Adams has had a chequered career and for every jukebox classic, there have been a clutch of forgettable, or regrettable moments; check here the greasy sleaze of "The Only Thing That Looks Good On Me Is You", the botched dalliance with dance-rhythms on "Cloud Number Nine" or that slick makeover that sees Bryan showing off his buttocks in soft-focus on the sleeve. Still, there's no denying that The Best Of Me features some justifiably massive hits: "All For Love"- with Bryan, Rod Stewart and Sting pulling their Three Musketeers impressions and the wonderful "When You're Gone", which features Melanie C as the particularly vociferous love interest.

"Please Forgive Me", "Let's Make A Night To Remember" oder "When You're Gone" im Duett mit Spice Girl Mel C.

Bryan Adams centre stage

Five of these 15 hits were also included on Adams' previous best-of, 1993's So Far So Good, and his much-loved but hard-to-find Diana continues to be overlooked. Those quibbles aside, The Best of Me shows Adams' talent for penning naggingly catchy guitar pop-rock didn't diminish during the schizophrenic 1990s, even as the erstwhile T-shirt-clad boy-next-door moved into his Gucci and mascara years. Only the hipper-than-thou set couldn't appreciate the breezy, singalong fun of Back to You and When You're Gone; his soundtracks ballads (Please Forgive Me, All For Love, Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman, Everything I Do I Do It For You) have their supporters too, particularly those with a high tolerance for treacle.

Bryan Adams goes full monty

Bryan Adams' new greatest hits package, "Best Of Me", will include all of him -- in the nude.

The singer snapped self-portraits of himself for the cover of the album, which arrives in stores Nov. 16, and Adams apparently decided to go au natural for the session.

"All of the photos for the album were done by B.A., and he appears nude in some of them," says a post at the official website, www.bryanadams.com.

Adams' spokeswoman Kim Blake said the singer did indeed take it all off for the photo session, but he won't appear in the altogether. True to the album's title, the photos show various body parts, including his tongue and his naked butt.

"He has taken pictures of parts of himself. So there is a picture of his elbow, a picture of his foot, his hand, his eye, his butt, his torso, his knee. That's the "Best of Me," all the best bits, is what he called it," Blake said Wednesday from Vancouver.

An early version of the cover (which may well end up as the final sleeve) showed Adams' face from below the eye socket up to his forehead, she added.

The best-of set will include two newly recorded tracks: "Follow" and the title cut, "The Best Of Me," which will be the first single and video.

The 15-cut disc will also include "When You're Gone" (his duet with Spice Girl Mel C.), his collaboration with Sting and Rod Stewart, "All For Love," a remix of "Cloud Number Nine" by Chicane, "Back To You" and "I'm Ready" from his Unplugged disc.

Also included will be older hits like "Run To You" and "Summer Of '69," some of which were already anthologized on his 1993 collection "So Far, So Good."

Bryan Adams Is Truly One Of The Best

Carrying on from where his '93 release So Far So Good left off, The Best Of Me looks at the most recent chapter in Bryan's great musical career. Featuring all his biggest hits from the last seven years including classics such as Let's Make A Night To Remember and Have You Ever Love A Woman with Paco Da Lucia on the spanish guitar to more rare tracks like Back To You and the title track The Best Of Me. Whether the hits were big or small is not really relevant as no matter what this CD is great from start to finish. Also included on this CD are some older tracks from So Far So Good like Summer Of '69 and Everything I Do(I Do It For You) - two of my all time favourite songs. This doesn't detract from the newer music available it enhances it and you can see how Bryan has progressed from his rock music to more gentler yet still as good middle of the road pop songs. If you think you're only getting 15 tracks then you're wrong. There is a hidden track of Don't Give Up, Bryan's UK No 1 single with Chicane and this is a welcome and diverse inclusion. Also the bonus live CD is exceptionally good as well and highlights how good Bryan can perform live. My favourite tracks include When You're Gone (with Mel C), the Three Musketeers song All For Love and the brilliant The Only Thing That Looks Good On Me Is You. The diversity of this CD is so great and that's what makes Bryan the great musician he is and possibly Canada's greatest ever.

Bryan Adams Must Be Stopped

If you're not convinced that Bryan Adams must be stopped after lisenting to this album, you probably are beyond help. Adams is the worst of incencere radio pop, and if rock and roll is really dead someone had better check Bryan for the smoking gun. It's a rare artist whose can add artistic legimacy to his career by doing a song with a Spice Girl.

this special edition rocks

This album is a great one, surely a classic. If you didn't listen to Bryan before, start with this album. It's a perfect collection of his classics like Summer of 69, Everything I do(I do it for you) and many more. It also contains the new single Best of me. But what's so special with this special edition is the 2nd CD. It contains live recordings of Summer of 69, Back to you, Can't stop this thing we started, Have you ever really loved a woman, and Rock Steady. I'm sure you'll love these live recordings with perfect quality. Specially live version of BACK TO YOU is the one every fan must have. I strongly advice you to buy this CD. Enjoy it.

long awaited

I don't know exactly when I realised, that Bryan Adams is doing the music I want to listen to. As far as I remember I appreciated his songs since I was old enough to turn on the radio on my own (don't laugh, I'm only 18 years old). But some years ago I was completely caught by the magic of Bryan's music. I bought every CD that exists (well almost every...I couldn manage to get rid of the asian releases) and as I heard that "the best of me" will be released in Austria I was one of the first who bought the CD. It was about the time I experienced my first live concert of Bryan and I thought nothing could be compared to this event. Well when I played the CD for the first time I felt the same with this album. Truly the most shaking "best of"-album released ever, although I think Bryan's best hits could fill 2 CD's, not only one. I like the artwork of the cover and the inlay as well. Dirk Rudolph did a good job there. And Bryan did a good job with most of the black/white-photographes as well. These are the titles: 1. The Best of me: This track makes its way into the hall of fame of the best lovesongs ever written. 2. Can't stop this thing we started: You might stop a hurricane, but this title is unstopable. A great song if you want to know wheather you are alife or not by turning on your HiFi. 3. I'm ready: actualy this one is a live version from MTV unplugged, a more slow version than the original rock balade. It gives me shivers down my spire everytime I hear the powerfull music starts to play. 4. summer of '69: the storry of 10 year old Bryan trying to play his first guitar. THE song that stands for Bryan Adams. It has been voted 3rd best song ever in Austria. A truly timeless rock song. 5. let's make a night to remember: I like the song, especialy when I'm in love. It's a real great song, full of desire and the woman he wrote it for must be a real special person. 6. all for love: I bought the single when it was out, because I liked the film the three musketeers that featured the song as a soundtrack. The three of them (BA, Sting, Rod Steward) did a great work with the song. 7. have you ever really loved a woman: The spanish guitar and gives a flair of "la vida espagna". The song from the film Don Huan de Marco (I hope it's spelled like that). 8. run to you: one of Bryan's classic hits, I think that it's best experienced live... 9. cloud number nine (chicane mix): I personaly like the chicane mix better than the original and the song is a great product of the cooperation between two great artists. There are two lines: "now he hurt you and you hurt me" that I think everyone who has ever loved in vain is familiar with. But this song of course is a "happy end" song as almost everyone of Bryan's titles. 10. I do it for you: Soundtrack to: Robin Hood - Prince of theves. His best song if you ask me. Moving and powerfull alike. Actualy this is the one I always appreciated, before I even knew that I like Bryan Adams. 11. back to you: An unplugged version. Mickey Curry unbeatable on the drums. In the end it reminds me of the title song to "a mountie in chicago" 12. when you are gone: great duet, though not the best ever, but truly a good one. 13. please forgive me: second best lovesong by him. Im almost crying everytime I hear this one. 14. the only thing that looks good on me is you: I didn't like this one until I heard it live at the concert. But now I'm glad it's featured on the CD. 15. inside out: almost as good as please forgive me (the video is also on the CD, I was surprised to discover it when I tried to run the disk on my computer. A feature that enriches the CD! check it out! ) If you thought that's all, you are wrong. There is another surprise: Everyone awaits 15 titles, but there is a 16th, that is not written on the cover: It's the second title by the BA/chicane project - don't give up. If you don't know wheather you should buy this album or not, here's my advice: BUY IT !

Tja, natürlich best of, nur wo sind dann Lieder wie 18 til I die, heaven, somebody und on a day like today??

August 2000

Best Of?

Bryan Adams war mal gut. Und was is jetzt?? Schade.

THE BEST OF ME

Sometimes words are hard to find
I'm looking for that perfect line
To let you know you're always on my mind
Ya this is love - n' I've learned enough to know
I'm never lettin' go
No, no, no - won't let go

When you want it - when you need it
You'll always have the best of me
I can't help it - believe it
You'll always get the best of me

I may not always know what's right
But I know I want you here tonight
Gonna make this moment last for all your life
oh ya this is love - n' it really means so much
I can tell from every touch
No, no, no - can't get enough

When you want it - when you need it
You'll always have the best of me
I can't help it - believe it
You'll always get the best of me

(Solo)

Ya this is love
And I've learned enough to know
I'm never letting go
No, no, no - won't let go

When you want it - when you need it
You'll always have the best of me
I can't help it - believe it
You'll always have the best of me - yeah!

When you want it - when you need it
You'll always get the best of me
I can't help it - believe it
You'll always get the best of me

You've got the best of me

THE ONLY THING THAT LOOKS GOOD ON ME IS YOU

I don't look good in no Armani Suits
No Gucci shoes - or designer boots
I've tried the latest lines from A to Z
But there's just one thing that looks good on me

The only thing I want
The only thing I need
The only thing I choose
The only thing that looks good on me...is you

I'm not satisfied with Versace style
Put those patent leather pants - in the circular file
Sometimes I think - I might be lookin' good
But there's only one thing that fits me like it should

The only thing I want
The only thing I need
The only thing I choose
The only thing that looks good on me...is you

Ya it's you - it could only be you
Nobody else will ever do
Ya baby it's you - that I stick to
Ya we stick like glue

The only thing I want
The only thing I need
The only thing I choose
The only thing that looks good on me...is you

I'M READY

I'd like to see you, thought I'd let you know
I wanna be with you everyday
Cause I've got a feeling that beginning to grow
And there's only one thing I wanna say

I'm ready - to love you
I'm ready - to hold you
I'm ready - I'm ready
Ready as I'm gonna be

She left me a long note when she left me here
Told me that love was hard to find
But baby it's easy and I'll make it clear
That there's only one thing on my mind

I'm ready - to love you
I'm reday - to hold you
I'm ready - I'm ready
Ready as I'm gonna be

SUMMER OF '69

I got my first real six string
Bought it at the five and dime
Played it til my fingers bled
Was the summer of '69

Me and some guys from school
Had a band and we tried real hard
Jimmy quit and Jody got married
I shoulda known we'd never get far

But when I look back now
That summer seemed to last forever
And if I had the choice
Ya - I'd always wanna be there
Those were the best days of my life

Ain't no use in complainin'
When you got a job to do
Spent my evenin's down at the drive-in
And that's when I met you - ya

Standin' on your mama's porch
You told me that you'd wait forever
Oh and when you held my hand
I knew that it was now or never
Those were the best days of my life

Back in the summer of '69

Man we were killin' time
We were young and restless
We needed to unwind
I guess nothin' can last forever - forever, no...

And now the times are changin'
Look at everything that's come and gone
Sometimes when I play that old six string
I think about ya'n wonder what went wrong

Standin' on your mama's porch
You told me it would last forever
Oh the way you held my hand
I knew that it was now or never
Those were the best days of my life

Back in the summer of '69

LET'S MAKE A NIGHT TO REMEMBER

I love the way ya look tonight
With your hair hangin' down on your shoulders
N' I love the way ya dance your slow sweet tango
The way ya wanna do everything but talk
And how ya stare at me with those undress me eyes
Your breath on my body makes me warm inside

Let's make out - let's do something amazing
Let's do something that's all the way
Cuz I've never touched somebody like the way I touch
your body
Now I never want to let your body go...

Let's make a night - to remember
From January - to December
Let's make love - to excite us
A memory - to ignite us
Let's make honey baby - soft and tender
Let's make sugar darlin' - sweet surrender
Let's make a night - to remember - all life long

I love the way ya move tonight
Beads of sweat drippin' down your skin
Me lying here - n' you lyin' there
Our shadows on the wall and our hands everywhere

Let's make out - let's do something amazing
Let's do something that's all the way
Cuz I've never touched somebody like the way I touch
your body
Now I never want to let your body go...

Let's make a night - to remember
From January - to December
Let's make love - to excite us
A memory - to ignite us
Let's make honey baby - soft and tender
Let's make sugar darlin' - sweet surrender
Let's make a night - to remember - all life long

I think about ya all the time
Can't you see you drive me outta my mind
Well I'm never holdin' back again
Ya I never want this night to end
Cuz I've never touched somebody like the way I touch
your body
Now I never want to let your body go...

ALL FOR LOVE

with Rod Stewart and Sting

When it's love you give
(I'll be a man of good faith.)
then in love you live.
(I'll make a stand. I won't break.)
I'll be the rock you can build on,
be there when you're old,
to have and to hold.

When there's love inside
(I swear I'll always be strong.)
then there's a reason why.
(I'll prove to you we belong.)
I'll be the wal that protects you
from the wind and the rain,
from the hurt and pain.

Let's make it all for one and all for love.
Let the one you hold be the one you want,
the one you need,
'cause when it's all for one it's one for all.
When there's someone that should know
then just let your feelings show
and make it all for one and all for love.

When it's love you make
(I'll be the fire in your night.)
then it's love you take.
(I will defend, I will fight.)
I'll be there when you need me.
When honor's at stake,
this vow I will make:

that it's all for one and all for love.
Let the one be the one you want,
the one you need,
'cause when it's all for one it's one for all.
When there's someone that should know
then just let your feelings show
and make it all for one and all for love.

Don't lay our love to rest
'cause we could stand up to you test.
We got everything and more than we had planned,
more than the rivers that run the land.
We've got it all in our hands.

Now it's all for one and all for love.
(It's all for love.)
Let the one you hold be the one you want,
the one you need,
'cause when it's all for one it's one for all.
(It's one for all.)
When there's someone that should know
then just let your feelings show.
When there's someone that you want,
when there's someone that you need
let's make it all, all for one and all for love.

HAVE YOU EVER REALLY LOVED A WOMAN

To really love a woman
To understand her - you gotta know her deep inside
Hear every thought - see every dream
N' give her wings - when she wants to fly
Then when you find yourself lyin' helpless in her arms
Ya know ya really love a woman

When you love a woman you tell her
that she's really wanted
When you love a woman you tell her that she's the one
Cuz she needs somebody to tell her
that it's gonna last forever
So tell me have you ever really
- really really ever loved a woman?

To really love a woman
Let her hold you -
til ya know how she needs to be touched
You've gotta breathe her - really taste her
Til you can feel her in your blood
N' when you can see your unborn children in her eyes
Ya know ya really love a woman

When you love a woman
you tell her that she's really wanted
When you love a woman you tell her that she's the one
Cuz she needs somebody to tell her
that you'll always be together
So tell me have you ever really -
really really ever loved a woman?

You got to give her some faith - hold her tight
A little tenderness - gotta treat her right
She will be there for you, takin' good care of you
Ya really gotta love your woman...

RUN TO YOU

She says her love for me could never die
But that'd change if she ever found out about you and I

Oh - but her love is cold
It wouldn't hurt her if she didn't know, cause...

When it gets too much
I need to feel your touch

I'm gonna run to you
I'm gonna run to you
Cause when the feelin's right I'm gonna run all night
I'm gonna run to you

She's got a heart of gold she'd never let me down
But you're the one that always turns me on
You keep me comin' 'round

I know her love is true
But it's so damn easy makin' love to you

I got my mind made up
I need to feel your touch

I'm gonna run to you
Ya - I'm gonna run to you
Cause when the feelin's right I'm gonna stay all night

I'm gonna run to you
Ya - I'm gonna run to you
Oh when the feelin's right I'm gonna run all night
I'm gonna run to you

CLOUD NUMBER NINE

Chicane Remix

clue number one was when you knocked on my door
clue number two was the look that you wore
n' that's when i knew, it was a pretty good sign
that something was wrong up on cloud number nine

well it's a long way up and we won't come down tonight
well it may be wrong but baby it sure feels right

and the moon is out and the stars are bright
and whatever comes s'gonna be alright
cause tonight you will be mine - up on cloud number nine
and there ain't no place that i'd rather be
and we can't go back but you're here with me
yeah, the weather is really fine - up on cloud number nine

now he hurt you and you hurt me
and that wasn't the way it was supposed to be
so baby tonight let's leave the world behind
and spend some time up on cloud number nine

well it's a long way up and we won't come down tonight
well it may be wrong but baby it sure feels right

well we won't come down tonight
ya we won't come down tonight
no we won't come down tonight

we can watch the world go by - up on cloud number nine

(EVERYTHING I DO) I DO IT FOR YOU

Look into my eyes - you will see
What you mean to me
Search your heart - search your soul
And when you find me there you'll search no more

Don't tell me it's not worth tryin' for
You can't tell me it's not worth dyin' for
You know it's true
Everything I do - I do it for you

Look into my heart - you will find
There's nothin' there to hide
Take me as I am - take my life
I would give it all - I would sacrifice

Don't tell me it's not worth fightin' for
I can't help it - there's nothin' I want more
Ya know it's true
Everything I do - I do it for you

There's no love - like your love
And no other - could give more love
There's nowhere - unless you're there
All the time - all the way

Oh - you can't tell me it's not worth tryin' for
I can't help it - there's nothin' I want more
I would fight for you - I'd lie for you
Walk the wire for you - ya I'd die for you

Ya know it's true
Everything I do - I do it for you

BACK TO YOU

live from MTV Unplugged

I've been down - I've been beat
I've been so tired-that I could not speak
I've been so lost thatt I could not see
I wanted things that were out of reach
then I found you and you helped me through
and ya showed me what to do
And that's why I'm comin' back to you...

Chorus:
Like a star that guides a ship across the ocean
that's how your love will take me home back to you
And if I wish upon that star -  someday I'll be where you are
I know that day is coming soon - ya, I'm coming back to you.
You've been alone, but ya did not show it
You've been in pain, but did not know it
Let me do what I needed to - you were there when I needed you
Mighta let you down, mighta messed you round
but ya never changed your point of view
and that's why I'm comin' back to you...

Repeat Chorus

I'm coming back to you
I'm coming back to you
I'm coming back to you
That day is coming soon

I'm coming back to you

WHEN YOU'RE GONE

i've been wandering around the house all night
wondering what the hell to do
i'm trying to concentrate but all i can think of is you
well the phone don't ring cuz my friends ain't home
i'm tired of being all alone
got the tv on cuz the radio's playing songs that remind me
of you

baby when you're gone - i realize i'm in love
the days go on and on - and the nights just seem so long
even food don't taste that good - drink ain't doing what it
should
things just feel so wrong - baby when you're gone

i've been driving up and down these streets
trying to find somewhere to go
ya i'm lookin' for a familiar face but there's no one i know

this is torture - this is pain - it feels like i'm gonna go
insane
i hope you're coming back real soon -cuz i don't know what
to do

PLEASE FORGIVE ME

Still feels like our first night together
Feels like the first kiss
It's gettin' better baby
No one can better this
Still holdin' on, you're still the one
First time our eyes met - same feelin' I get
Only feels much stronger - wanna love ya longer
You still turn the fire on...
So if you're feelin' lonely don't - you're the only one I ever want
I only wanna make it good - so if I love ya a little more than I should

Please forgive me - I know not what I do
Please forgive me - I can't stop lovin' you
Don't deny me - this pain I'm going through
Please forgive me - if I need ya like I do
Please believe me - every word I say is true
Please forgive me - I can't stop lovin' you

Still feels like our best times are together
Feels like the first touch - still gettin' closer baby
Can't get close enough
Still holdin' on - still number one
I remember the smell of your skin - I remember everything
I remember all your moves - I remember you yeah
I remember the nights - ya know I still do
So if you're feelin' lonely don't - you're the only one I ever want
I only wanna make it good - so if I love ya a little more than I should

Please forgive me - I know not what I do
Please forgive me - I can't stop lovin' you
Don't deny me this pain I'm going through
Please forgive me - if I need ya like I do
Oh believe me - every word I say is true
Please forgive me - I can't stop lovin' you

One thing I'm sure of - is the way we make love
And one thing I depend on - is for us to stay strong
With every word and every breath I'm prayin'
That's why I'm sayin'

Please forgive me - I know not what I do
Please forgive me - I can't stop lovin' you
Don't deny me this pain I'm going through
Please forgive me - if I need ya like I do
Babe believe me - every word I say is true
Please forgive me - if I can't stop lovin' you
Never leave me - I don't know what I'd do
Please forgive me - I can't stop lovin' you
Can't stop lovin' you

CAN'T STOP THIS THING WE STARTED

You might stop a hurricane
Might even stop the drivin' rain
You might have a dozen other guys
But if you wanna stop me baby - don't even try
I'm goin' one way - your way
It's such a strong way - let's make it our way

Can't stop this thing we started
Ya gotta know it's right
Can't stop this course we plotted
This thing called love we got it
No place for the broken hearted
Can't stop this thing we started - no way
I'm goin' your way!

You might stop the world spinnin' 'round
Might even walk on holy ground
I ain't superman and I can't fly
But if you wanna stop me baby - don't even try
I'm goin' one way - your way
It's such a strong way - let's make it our way

Can't stop this thing we started
Ya gotta know it's right
Can't stop this course we plotted
This thing called love we got it
No place for the broken hearted
Can't stop this thing we started - no way
I'm goin' your way!

Oh - why take it slow
I gotta know
Nothin' can stop - this thing that we got

INSIDE OUT

the biggest lie you ever told - your deepest fear 'bout
growin' old
the longest night you ever spent - the angriest letter you
never sent
the boy you swore you'd never leave - the one you kissed on
new years's eve
the sweetest dream you had last night -- your darkest hour,
your hardest fight

i wanna know you - like i know myself
i'm waitin' for you - there ain't no one else
talk to me baby - scream and shout
i want to know you - inside out
i wanna dig down deep - i wanna lose some sleep
i wanna scream and shout - i wanna know you inside out
i wanna take my time - i wanna know your mind
ya know there ain't no doubt - i wanna know you inside out

the saddest song you ever heard - the most you said with
just one word
the loneliest prayer you ever prayed - the truest vow you
ever made
what makes you laught, what makes you cry
what makes you mad, what gets you by
you highest hight, your lowest low - these things I want to
know

i wanna know you - like i know myself
i'm waitin' for you - there ain't no one else
talk to me baby - scream and shout
i want to know you - inside out
i wanna dig down deep - i wanna lose some sleep
i wanna scream and shout - i wanna know you inside out
i wanna take my time - i wanna know your mind
ya know there ain't no doubt - i wanna know oyu inside out
i wanna know your sould - i wanna lose control
c'mon n' let it out - i wanna know you inside out
ya gotta dig down deep - i wanna lose some slieep
i wanna scream and shout - i wanna know oyu inside out
tell me everything...

DON'T GIVE IT UP

Ghost track on "The Best Of Me" album

Don't give it up
Don't give it up

Don't worry if the sun don't shine
You've seen it before, you don't need to worry
Every day's an uphill climb, nothing has changed
Believe me when I tell ya

Don't give it up
Don't give it up

Don't give up--you know it's true
Gotta do what you wanna do
Oh yeah
Don't give it up--you don't have to
Gotta do what you wanna do
Oh yeah

[whole thing repeats again]
