Fleetwood Mac suffered more personnel changes following the release of Behind The Mask in 1990, with Stevie Nicks and Rick Vito leaving, to be replaced by newcomer Bekka Bramlett (daughter of Delaney and Bonnie) and veteran Dave Mason. As a result, the group slipped down another notch in terms of quality and attention. Christine McVie could always be relied on to turn in her quotient of four or five perky songs of romantic devotion; Mason checked in with "Blow By Blow," a statement of renewed purpose that was braver than it was accurate; and Bramlett was an appealing, emotive singer. But despite the familiar rhythm section, this simply was not the group that made the great blues-rock of the 1960s or the group that made the great pop-rock of the '70s. And nobody was fooled: Time didn't even make the charts.

Ein Wunder: Mick Fleetwood sowie die Ur-Kampfgenossen John und Christine McVie haben sich nach dreijähriger Pause doch noch mal zusammengerauft, eine Handvoll frischer Musiker geholt und ein neues Mac-Kapitel begonnen.Es hätte kaum besser werden können: Die 13 Songs sind schön bis sehr schön; manche, wie die Akustik-Nummer Dreamin' The Dream mit der neuen Sängerin Bekka Bramlen, fast magisch. Der andere Neuling, Veteran Dave Mason, gibt viel Gas: Seine Stärke liegt in der Kraft - zuletzt ein Mac-Defizit, das jetzt behoben ist.

Stevie Nicks ist nicht mehr dabei und auch Rick Vito hat die Band wieder verlassen. Gekommen sind dafür die junge Sängerin Bekka Bramlett (Tochter von Delaney & Bonnie) und ein älterer Herr, der einst Traffic die Hits "Hole In My Shoe" und "Feelin' Alright" bescherte: der britische Gitarrist und Sänger Dave Mason. Unter der Regie ihres langjährigen Produzenten Richard Dashut präsentieren sich die neuen Fleetwood Mac wieder als gut geschmiertes Pop-Rock-Vehikel, bei dem Christine McVie wie gehabt die Lorbeeren für die eingängigsten Titel einheimst: "I Do", "Nights In Estoril". ** Interpret.: 07-08

The temptation is to compare this version of Fleetwood Mac with the multiplatinum quintet that peaked in the '70s and then made a triumphant return in 1997. But there've been some half dozen versions of Mac over the last 28 years, some significantly more memorable than others. This 1995 lineup isn't likely to make anyone forget Rumours. Three stalwart members--Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, and Christine McVie--are back, joined by 10-year Mac vet Billy Burnette and short-term members Bekka Bramlett (the daughter of first generation Mac contemporaries Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett) and journeyman rocker Dave Mason. The spotlight inevitably shines brightest upon McVie, who responds with four songs that are never less, or more, than pleasant. For their part, Burnette, Bramlett, and Mason check in with mostly nondescript contributions.
