If you are a fan of the late violinist, Yehudi Menuhin, you may have acquired the two-disc set EMI released in 2003 as 85544 especially wanting all the concertos Menuhin recorded with the Polish Chamber Orchestra under Jerzy Maksymiuk, you didn't get ALL their collaborations. Instead, in 85544, EMI elected to issue the second disc (Menuhin also conducting) seven Vivaldi concertos in combination with other instruments (two violins, violin and cello, violin and oboe, violin and organ). In doing this, EMI left out some of the most important "named" Vivaldi violin concertos in the two-disc set. These include the concertos identified as "Il Piacere," "Il Sospetto," "La Tempesta di Mare," "La Caccia," and other, the Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 8/11. I haven't done a Menuhin discography check yet to determine if there were more Vivaldi violin concerti recorded with Maksymiuk in cooperation with Polish Radio and Television than are spread over these two CD issues. However, these "named" concerti were issued on a "Classics for Pleasure" disc by EMI, 67266 [otherwise also identified as CFP 4522], published in 1983. There may well be other incarnations of the Vivaldi recordings. Anybody know for sure? Otherwise, I thought these to be well performed by Menuhin, whose reputation for accuracy and intonation was already being noted (i.e. criticized negatively).
