Steve Thorne is a prolific singer / songwriter and performing artist from the south of England. Over the years he has played in venues across the country both as a solo performer and as the founding band member of Colony Earth and The Salamander Project. More recently he has stepped 'off the island' to support Jadis on tour in the UK and Europe, notably Belgium, Germany, Holland and Spain where he was well received and gained much praise and genuine appreciation.
Drawing together all of his experience of events in the world at large and life on the road, Steve has completed his debut album Emotional Creatures : Part One. This work is a combination of well crafted songs with strong melodic tendencies and thought provoking lyrics, Steve is certainly not afraid to tackle any subject head-on.
Emotional Creatures : Part One is musically too diverse to pigeon hole. It draws on influences from Folk, Indie and even Progressive Rock but is much more than this! Some of Steve's influences come from his wide taste in musical styles; covering everything from Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Rush through to Jethro Tull, Kevin Gilbert and Tears For Fears as well as much modern day music. This has helped shape the music Steve creates.
From the outset of the writing and recording process Steve has made a conscious decision to supplement his undeniable multi-instrumental skills by having other musicians involved. Contributions have been made by a number of well known and respected musicians, including Tony Levin (King Crimson, Peter Gabriel, Liquid Tension), Nick D'Virgilio (Spock's Beard, Genesis, Tears For Fears), Geoff Downes (Asia, Buggles, YES) and various members of both IQ and Jadis. This provides Emotional Creatures : Part One with a real variety of sounds and styles giving the album its fresh and original vibe.
Steve is constantly beavering away, spending most of his time in the studio and has already completed the writing for the follow-up album Emotional Creatures : Part Two and beyond. Steve has showcased parts of Emotional Creatures : Part One during his earlier tour support slots, where he played and sang over backing tracks comprising of various instruments played and arranged by himself. When asked to comment on his thoughts and feelings for his current and future musical endeavours he simply said: 'It's no secret, I eat, sleep and breathe music. My biggest regret is that I wasn't born with six arms and four feet, so I can play all the instruments myself and be a true one-man band!
