Die Soundtracks zur Kultsendung haben über die Jahre eine Metamorphose von "Classic Rock" über spacige Ambient-Flächen bis zum momentan angesagten Electro-Revival-Beat vollzogen. Leider geht - trotz guter Sounds und großer Namen wie Sven Väth und Coldcut - mit der Anpassung an den Trend auch die zeitlose Qualität flöten, mit der die ruhig dahinschwebenden Spacenight-Soundtracks Numero II und III noch heute am nächtlichen Soundsternenhimmel glänzen.

Das erste amtliche Album der Spaze DJ'z, meine Damen und Herren, ein Sprung in seltsame Gewässer. Ben Long und Jamie Bissmire, Zweidrittel der Bandulu-Dub-Tech-Allstars, haben sich sehr lange Zeit gelassen und für "On Patrol!' all ihr Wissen eingesetzt. Hohes Tempo, kurze Tracks, unmittelbarer Einstieg, Drumpattern-Orgien, Heiligsprechung des Loops. Energiemaxima werden in der Regel in den ersten Takten erreicht, Steigerungen und Variationen sind die Art der Space DJ'z nicht. Bissmire und Long präsentieren sich wieder von ihrer besten Seite. Es lebe das klare Statement, hier in Form eines wohldosierten und gut gewählten minimalistischen Schrauben-Sortiments. Und daß das Duo inzwischen nicht komplett abgedreht und sich seiner Dub-Reggae-Vergangenheit durchaus noch bewußt ist, wird spätestens mit dem feisten "Centre Field' und dem relaxten "Nice Vibes' deutlich. Ich freue mich.

On late night TV across Germany they have a commercial free program of images and movies taken from satellites. Each clip lasts 30 to 40 seconds. Through various cloud levels you can see continents and oceans slip by. Music is playing. It is some of the best ambient and trance music available. They were playing Kruder & Dorfmeister on this show long before it was receiving US airplay. This disk is the first in a 6 (so far) series of music that appears on the show. This is the worst of the series in my opinion and it isn't too bad. It has some ok 1980's trance and 1970's melow songs. My advice is to immediately go to www.Amazon.de and purchase parts 2,3,4,5, and 6. All but one of these are double cd's filled with the best techno ambient trance from a variety of artists. Listening to these collections has spurned me to buy many of the artists full albums. "Don't Forget to Feed the Fish" is one notable group I discovered through this series. If you are unsure, get #3 or #5. I just ordered the new release of #6 and it will be arriving shortly. If you have ordered from Amazon.com, then making your way through the Amazon.de ordering system will be a breeze - it is all in German, but it is identical to the US check out procedure. At least, go to Amazon.de and listen to the download tracks for these albums - that will be the proof that these albums are as good as I am saying. Cross your fingers that Amazon.com will start carrying these great discs in inventory!
