..an appealing CD variety show...hypnotically repetitive

Rolling Stone (5/28/92)

You're on the dance-floor, you hear that familiar beat, its silky pulse moves you-it can only be one thing: Soul II Soul. On its first LP, Keep On Movin', Jazzie B and Co. set the dance music scene on their heels with "Keep On Movin'" and "Back To Life." 1990's Volume II - 1990 - A New Decade seemed to lack the enthusiasm that the first LP gathered, but did contain the hit "Get A Life." This year, Volume III Just Right marks a few changes, as well as a few surprises, for Jazzie B's musical collective. First of all, Soul II Soul captures more of the flavors of its debut release: more island and Caribbean grooves mixed with western R & B and soul and a few rootsy yet sophisticated instrumentals ("Storm," "Mood"). Volume III... also marks the return of Caron Wheeler, whose gorgeous vocals only grace "Take Me Higher," and for the first time, male lead vocalists (outside of Jazzie's rapping), most notably on "Joy," featuring Richie Stephens and "Just Right," featuring Rick Clarke.
