This is the first full-length album by the "supergroup" People On Vacation, a duo consisting of Jeret Reddick (of Bowling for Soup) and Ryan Hamilton (of Smile Smile). It follows the group's debut EP Carry On from 2011 and recycles three songs from that EP and features seven new songs.

When Ryan Hamilton’s band Smile Smile opened for Jaret Reddick’s band Bowling For Soup, the two of them started writing together. They took Hamilton’s laid back alt rock and fused it with Reddick’s catchy pop punk to form the duo that is People On Vacation. If you attended one of Bowling For Soup’s annual acoustic tours then chances are you have already had a taste of People On Vacation as they played support to BFS in Spring 2012. If not, then their first full album The Summer and The Fall is about to hit the shelves and we got a sneaky preview of the whole thing!

The record opens with Because Of The Sun and brings you into its soothing melody and serves as a perfect example of why this band started in the first place. Hamilton’s slow and heartfelt verses combined with Reddick’s awesome hooks and catchy chorus is a match made in heaven. The rest of the record follows suit and proves that this side project is certainly a worthwhile one.

Prettiest Girl In The World is about really liking a girl, finding everything about them attractive and although other people may not see it, to you, they are the prettiest girl in the world. Lonely Fish on the other hand portrays the struggle to find that one perfect person in this big wide world. It also has kind of an early Weezer vibe and I can certainly dig that! Album closer Where Do We Go is a haunting story of mortality and making the best of the time you have. Overall, the emotional content covered in this album may be more complex than some fans of the duo’s other projects expect.

3.5/5 – What we have here is a collection of mature and relaxed songs taking a look at life. Just as the title The Summer and The Fall suggests it’s not all happy and not all sad. This is definitely a record that manages to touch on very human emotions that most of us can relate to. If this sounds appealing to you then you should definitely check out People On Vacation.
