Recorded in 1991 at A&M Studios and Devonshire Studios, Los Angeles, California.

Having been cleared earlier in the year in another lawsuit concerning the supposedly suicide-inducing subject matter of his music, Ozzy Osbourne reinvigorated his sound and expanded his following with his sixth studio album, No More Tears, in the fall of 1991. Finding more sympathetic producers in Duane Baron and John Purdell to replace Roy Thomas Baker (who had helmed his last effort, 1988's No Rest for the Wicked), collaborating with Lemmy Kilmister of Motörhead on four songs, and retaining the services of guitarist Zakk Wylde, Osbourne brought his music into the '90s. Songs like "Desire" and "S.I.N." had an energetic, contemporary metal sound, and Osbourne effectively changed gears to turn out gentle ballads like "Mama, I'm Coming Home," which gave him his first U.S. Top 40 hit on his own. Not cowed by his court cases, he wrote songs about child abuse ("Mr. Tinkertrain") and serial murder ("No More Tears") from the point of view of the criminals. But he also considered his own place in the general scheme of things in the tribute to the rock & roll lifestyle "Hellraiser" and the reflective "Road to Nowhere." It all made for an unusually broad range of material, and the album returned him to the Top Ten and multi-platinum status.

No More Tears is the sixth studio album by British heavy metal vocalist Ozzy Osbourne. Released on 17 September 1991, the album charted at number 17 on the UK Albums Chart and number seven on the US Billboard 200 albums chart. No More Tears spawned five singles, of which four reached the top ten of the US Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, including the number-two "Mama, I'm Coming Home", and it contains the Grammy winning track "I Don't Want to Change the World". It is also one of Osbourne's two best-selling albums in North America, along with Blizzard of Ozz, having been certified four times platinum by the RIAA and double platinum by CRIA.

Guitarist Zakk Wylde contributed songwriting and guitar to the album, while Motörhead's bassist/vocalist Lemmy co-wrote the lyrics for four songs. Although Mike Inez performs in the album's videos and promotional tours, long-time Ozzy Osbourne bassist Bob Daisley plays on the entire album. Inez is credited as a writer for the title track; although he does not perform on the actual recording, the intro bass riff was composed by him.

No More Tears marks the final appearances of drummer Randy Castillo and longtime bassist Bob Daisley with Osbourne. Daisley's relationship with Osbourne and his management had been volatile for several years, and Castillo died in 2002.

The 2002 reissue of No More Tears featured two additional tracks entitled "Don't Blame Me" and "Party with the Animals". Both tracks had originally been released in 1991 as B-sides.
