One always says that you can't rush greatness or perfection, and this couldn't be more true in the case of metal titans NEVERMORE, who last released the highly acclaimed This Godless Endeavor in 2005. The Seattle quartet have triumphantly returned with the much anticipated new full-length release, The Obsidian Conspiracy, which is what could be their most impressive offering of their illustrious decade plus, heralded career. This quintessential metal band was formed out of the ashes of Seattle, Washington, based thrash act Sanctuary in 1991 by Dane and Jim Sheppard (bass), with the addition of Jeff Loomis (guitar, who had played in the final line-up of Sanctuary) and Mark Arrington on drums. A few years later, Van Williams joined the band (drums). The band has since released six full-length albums, toured the world a number of times and captivated the hearts of metalheads touring with such diverse and major acts ranging from Megadeth, In Flames, Disturbed, Arch Enemy, Dimmu Borgir and Children of Bodom, among countless others. Let the conspiracy begin. NEVERMORE are back and stronger than ever before!

The Obsidian Conspiracy is the upcoming seventh album by Seattle  based American progressive/thrash metal band Nevermore, to be released June 8, 2010 in North America by Century Media and in the very end of May in Europe. Nevermore, having written 13 new songs, entered Wichers studio, North Carolina, in August 2009, to record the album. Van Williams completed recording the drumming on the album as 17th of August, in Seattle. The whole recording process was finished in October. Warrel Dane commented on the writing process: "These songs are full of newfound rage, lyrically and musically. Jeff Loomis has come up with some amazing new riffs that will no doubt please old and new fans alike. Also, I think the combination of Peter and Andy(production & mixing) will result in something very, very special." Dane expressed his opinion about the song "And the Maiden spoke": " [It] is going to blow your minds; it's twisted, progressive lunatic fringe riffing with vicious hooklines." Jeff Loomis commented on the writing of the album: "I think that with the new Nevermore, it still sounds like the band, but I think I'm giving Warrel a little bit more room this time around for more vocals rather than all the notey, kind of complex stuff and all that, so this time around it's just a little bit more wide open musically for him to really be able to do whatever he wants vocally this time around. So we'll see what happens. It's gonna be an interesting album for us, for sure." Nevermore recorded two cover songs during the sessions: "The Crystal Ship" by The Doors and "Temptation" by The Tea Party which will be included in a two-disc limited box-set edition of the album. The box-set will also include guitar-less and guitar-only versions of "Your Poison Throne" and "The Obsidian Conspiracy", play-along videos with guitar-playing instructions from Jeff Loomis, and guitar tabs for both songs. A music video for the song "Emptiness Unobstructed" directed by Nigel Crane, was filmed during the band's May 18 concert at the O2 Academy Islington in London, England.
