In 2004, U.K. favorite Muse broke through in the U.S. with Absolution and major performances across America that won legions of new fans. In 2006, Muse takes a bold new step with Black Holes And Revelations, a powerful, upbeat epic album that takes the band’s music to a whole dimension. Once again co-produced by Rich Costey (Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave), Muse incorporates influences from electronica and Prince to pure pop. The album is sure to be a revelation to those still unfamiliar with the 2005 Brit award winner for Best Live Act who headlines this summer’s Reading and Leeds festivals.

'Black Holes And Revelations' delivers a stylistic overhaulfrom Devon's premiere epic space rock outfit Muse. The follow up 2003's smash 'Absolution' looks to merge Matt Bellamy's trademark powerful riffs with dance beats to produce an upbeat album with influences moving towards Prince and Franz Ferdinand. Co-produced by Rich Costey (Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave) and including the single 'Supermassive BlackHole'.

Sounding like the confident, ambitious superstars they already are in their native UK, Muse follows up their breakthrough Absolution with an album that tempers the trio's unabashed grandiosity and apocalyptic obsessions with a smart pop groove. The minimalist angst of the opening "Take A Bow" may bridge the goth-pop conceits of the collection's successful predecessor, but those expectations are quickly kicked aside by "Starlight"'s synth-pop bliss, the falsettoed, space-disco thump of "Supermassive Black Hole" and the chilly, New Wave redux sheen of "Map of the Problematic"; so much for being held hostage to those early Radiohead comparisons. Indeed, on the lilting "Soldier's Poem" vocalist Matthew Bellamy cannily channels Freddie Mercury while "Assassin" pulses with the familiar metallic nerve and lyrical dread of Muse past. But by the time "Knights of Cydonia" erupts in a wrenching, melodramatic climax that somehow fuses ELP, Davie Allan, Procul Harum and Chris Isaak with enough giddy abandon to suspend disbelief, Muse have long since proved their case as genre-be-damned rock world-beaters.

So viele Zitate, so viele Eindrücke. Hat "Black Holes And Revelations" denn gar nichts Eigenes zu bieten? Doch - genau dieser Mix ist das Besondere. Er mag ziemlich pathetisch klingen - aber er klingt!

Tobias Schmitz - Stern

Black Holes and Revelations finds Muse finally achieving their full potential, producing an album that is their biggest yet. And for a band that was responsible for the grandiose Origin of the Symmetry, that's no mean feat. In a time when lo-fi and acoustic acts are devouring the charts, Muse are resolutely swimming against the tide. Black Holes and Revelations is an epic album, and it sounds huge - listening to it, it's difficult to remember that Muse are just a trio. This is a band who enter a studio determined to get their money's worth - it wouldn't be a surprise to hear a kitchen sink clanging away in the background. In the hands of a lesser band, Black Holes and Revelations would sound either ironic or silly, with songs like "Starlight" sounding like a beefed-up ELO track, right down to its lyrics about spaceships. And that's not the only 1970's British rock band that's referenced here: by the end of "Soldier's Poem", you'll swear that Freddie Mercury and Queen are providing the harmonies. And the influence of Queen sticks around right through the energetic rocker "Assassin". Black Holes and Revelations wears the comparison well - this is an arena-rock album, carefully constructed by a band who by having no fear of the absurd, manage to transcend it. Quite simply, this album rocks.

Naysayers listen up. Teignmouth, England's Muse refuse to be the "next" Radiohead. Since forming in 1997, this alternative rock trio has continuously battled comparisons to the famed Oxford group while ambitiously creating a sound of their own. British fans have praised the group for years, despite Americans taking until Absolution to discover Muse and give them their props. Whether or not you championed the grand dramatics of Absolution, Muse is a solid band and Black Holes and Revelations defines that with a passion. Rich Costey joins Muse in the co-production of this 11-song set; together, they create the band's most realized and meticulous album to date. "Take a Bow" sets the scene immediately with mesmerizing full rock orchestration layered in waves of synthesizers and percussion, building up to vocalist/guitarist Matthew Bellamy's aching performance of a world torn apart by its own instability. Though frequently compared to Queen's Freddie Mercury and Thom Yorke, Bellamy comes into his own here. He, drummer Dominic Howard, and bassist Chris Wolstenholme appear completely in sync for the first time. Sure, their previous work showed promise, but they sound like a complete band on Black Holes and Revelations. The sultry, swaggering "Supermassive Black Hole" and the razor-edged paranoiac "Assassin" are good examples of how adamant Muse is about delivering the biggest rock & roll package they possibly can. Bellamy howls "You and I must fight for our rights/You and I must fight to survive" on the riotous Rush-like megalomania of "Knights of Cydonia," and it's true - they've totally fought for their craft on this one. It may have taken four albums for Americans to get it, but with Black Holes and Revelations, the whole world should be watching.

MacKenzie Wilson - All Music Guide

His icy rasp perfectly suited to such blackhearted tales, Graffin also uses the stripped-away detour to contribute a few of his own tracks, which figure exactly into the album's sense of dusty isolation.

Jeff Vrabel - Billboard

Bellamy's musical vision has undergone a big bang. Influences like Philip Glass, Wagner, Killing Joke, Hall & Oates, Elvis, New Order and U2 nestle alongside each other     without fear of sounding utterly ridiculous.

Dave Simpson - The Guardian

Over the course of their first three studio albums Muse slowly gained ground as one of the more progressive and accomplished rock bands of the 2000s. By the time of 2006's BLACK HOLES AND REVELATIONS, the process was complete. While still steeped in moody Britpop, wall-of-guitar rock, and space-synth soundscapes, BLACK HOLES finds Muse diversifying their already broad palette and creating one of their most ambitious efforts. The tune "Supermassive Black Hole" is a case in point. A club-ready funk groove underpins the crunching guitars, proving Muse as capable of moving the body as expanding the mind. Elsewhere, the band experiments with flamenco-flavored guitars and mariachi horns amid their dense waves of guitars and electronics, while lead singer Matt Bellamy sings of apocalyptic themes, environmental degradation, and revolution. The effect, sonically and otherwise, is expansive and powerful, and the successful conflation of dance-rock, prog-rock, and hard rock underscore Muse's knack for fearlessly pushing several buttons at once.

CDUniverse

Muse's fourth album is one of the year's most overblown records, mixing together huge, doomy soundscapes, snarling guitars and space-age sound effects with Matthew Bellamy's operatic wail and lyrics about stuff like death, injustice and "superstars sucked into the supermassive." This isn't so surprising coming from these sub-Radiohead gloomsters; what's surprising is that most of the time, Black Holes and Revelations actually works. There's room for melody on seductive songs like "Invincible," an epic with military drums and laser-beam guitar. Sleek, falsetto-laden lead single "Supermassive Black Hole" bangs like prime Depeche Mode, and "Starlight" sets sparkling patter and Coldplay-style swoons over an almost power-pop groove. A couple of sci-fi anthems "Knights of Cydonia" and "City of Delusion" are as ridiculous as their track names. But if you manage to suspend your disbelief a little, Black Holes and Revelations will push your pleasure buttons.

Take A Bow

Corrupt, you corrupt,
and Bring corruption to all that you touch.

Hold, you’ll behold,
And be holden for all that you’ve done.

Spell, cast a spell,
Cast a spell on the country you run.

And risk, you will risk,
You will risk all their lives and their souls.

And burn, you will burn,
You will burn in hell, yeah you’ll burn in hell.
You’ll burn in hell, yeah you’ll burn in hell for your sins.

Ooohhh.
Our freedom's is consuming itself,
What we've become is contrary to what we want
Take a bow.

Death, you bring death and destruction to all that you touch.

Pay, you must pay
You must pay for your crimes against the earth.

Hex, feed the hex
Feed the hex on the country you love

And Beg, you will beg
You will beg for their lives and their souls.

Yeah,
Burn, you will burn,
You will burn in hell, yeah you’ll burn in hell,
You’ll burn in hell, yeah you’ll burn in hell,
Burn in hell, yeah you'll burn in hell for your sins.

Starlight

Far away
This ship has taken me far away
Far away from the memories
Of the people who care if I live or die

Starlight
I will be chasing a starlight
Until the end of my life
I don't know if it's worth it anymore

Hold you in my arms
I just wanted to hold you in my arms

My life
You electrify my life
Let's conspire to re-ignite
All the souls that would die just to feel alive

I'll never let you go
If you promise not to fade away
Never fade away

Our hopes and expectations
Black holes and revelations
Our hopes and expectations
Black holes and revelations

Hold you in my arms
I just wanted to hold you in my arms

Far away
This ship has taken me far away
Far away from the memories
Of the people who care if I live or die

I'll never let you go
If you promise not to fade away
Never fade away

Our hopes and expectations
Black holes and revelations
Our hopes and expectations
Black holes and revelations

Hold you in my arms
I just wanted to hold you in my arms
I just wanted to hold

Supermassive Black Hole

Oh baby don't you know I suffer?
Oh baby can't you hear me moan?
You caught me under false pretences
How long before you let me go?

Oooh...You set my soul alight
Oooh...You set my soul alight

(oooh...You set my soul alight)
Glaciers melting in the dead of night
And the superstars sucked into the supermassive

(oooh...You set my soul alight)
Glaciers melting in the dead of night
And the superstars sucked into the supermassive

I thought I was a fool for no-one
Oh baby I'm a fool for you
You're the queen of the superficial
And how long before you tell the truth

Oooh...You set my soul alight
Oooh...You set my soul alight

(oooh...You set my soul alight)
Glaciers melting in the dead of night
And the superstars sucked into the supermassive

(oooh...You set my soul alight)
Glaciers melting in the dead of night
And the superstars sucked into the supermassive
(sucked into the supermassive)

Supermassive black hole
Supermassive black hole
Supermassive black hole
Supermassive black hole

Glaciers melting in the dead of night
And the superstars sucked into the supermassive

Glaciers melting in the dead of night
And the superstars sucked into the supermassive

(oooh...You set my soul alight)
Glaciers melting in the dead of night
And the superstars sucked into the supermassive

(You set my soul)
Glaciers melting in the dead of night
And the superstars sucked into the supermassive

Supermassive black hole
Supermassive black hole
Supermassive black hole
Supermassive black hole

Map Of The Problematique

Fear
And panic in the air
I want to be free
From desolation and despair
And I feel
Like everything I sow
Is being swept away
Well I refuse to let you go

I can't get it right
Get it right
Since I met you

Loneliness be over
When will this loneliness be over?

Life
Will flash before my eyes
So scattered and lost
I want to touch the other side
And no one
Thinks they are to blame
Why can't we see
When we bleed we bleed the same?

I can't get it right
Get it right
Since I met you

Loneliness be over
When will this Loneliness be over?

Loneliness be over
When will this Loneliness be over?

Soldier's Poem

Throw it all away
Lets lose ourselves
Cause theres no one left for us to blame
Its a shame we're all dying
And do you think you deserve your freedom

How could you send us all far away from home
When you know damn well that this is wrong
I would still lay down my life for you

And do you think you deserve your freedom
No I dont think you do

Theres no justice in the world

Theres no justice in the world

And there never was

Invincible

Follow through
Make your dreams come true
Don't give up the fight
You will be all right
Cause there's no one like you
In the universe

Don't be afraid
What your mind conceives
You should make a stand
Stand up for what you believe
And tonight we can truly say
Together we're invincible

And during the struggle
They will pull us down
But please, please let's use this chance to
Turn things around
And tonight we can truly say
Together we're invincible

Do it on your own
Makes no difference to me
What you leave behind
What you choose to be
and whatever they say
Your soul's unbreakable

And during the struggle
They will pull us down
But please, please let's use this chance to
Turn things around
And tonight we can truly say
Together we're invincible
Together we're invincible

And during the struggle
They will pull us down
Please, please let's use this chance to
Turn things around
And tonight we can truly say
Together we're invincible

Assassin

War is overdue
The time has come for you
To shoot your leaders down
Join forces underground

Lose control
At increasing pace
Warped and bewitched
And time to erase
Whatever they say
These people are torn
Wild and bereft
Assassin is born (yeah)

Oppose and disagree
Destroy Demonocracy

Lose control
At increasing pace
Warped and bewitched
And time to erase
Whatever they say
These people are torn
Wild and bereft
Assassin is born (yeah)

Exo-Politics

Open the skies over me,
I am waiting patiently,
I'll wait for a sign.

As conspiracies unwind,
Will you slam shut,
Or free your mind,
or stay hypnotised.

When the Zetas fill the skies,
Will our leaders tell us why,
Fully loaded satellites,
will conquer nothing but our minds.

And I've waited patiently,
And I wait for the sign.

Carried through the centuries,
Secrets locked up,
And loaded on my back,
and it weighs me down.

When the Zetas fill the skies,
It's just our leaders in disguise,
Fully loaded satellites,
will conquer nothing but our minds.

And I am waiting patiently,
And I'll wait for the sign. (Yeah).
And I am waiting patiently,
I'll wait for the sign

City Of Delusion

Stay away from me
Build a fortress
And shield your beliefs
Touch the divine
As we fall in line

Can I believe
When I don't trust
All your theories
Turn to dust
I choose to hide
From the All Seeing Eye

Destroy this City of Delusion
Break these walls down
I will avenge
And justify my reasons
With your blood

You will not rest
Settle for less
Until you guzzle
And squander whats left
Do not deny
That you live and let die

Destroy this City of Delusion
Break these walls down
I will avenge
And justify my reasons
With your blood

Destroy this City of Delusion
Break these walls down
I will avenge
And justify my reasons
With your blood

Hoodoo

Come into my life
Regress into a dream
We will hide
And build a new reality
Draw another picture
Of the life you could have had
Follow your instincts
And choose the other path
You should never be afraid
You're protected
From trouble and pain
Why
Why is this a crisis in your eyes again
Come to be
How did it come to be
Tied to a railroad
No love to set us free
Watch our souls fade away
And our bodies crumbling
Don't be afraid
I will take the BLOW for you
I've had recurring nightmares
That I was loved for who I am
And missed the opportunity
To be a better man

Knights Of Cydonia

Ahh Ahh Ahh
Ahh Ahh Ahh
Ahh Ahh Ahh
Ahh Ahh Ahh

(repeat, soprano)

Come ride with me,
Through the veins of history,
I'll show you how god,
Falls asleep on the job.

And how can we win,
When fools can be kings,
Don't waste your time,
Or time will waste you,

Ahh Ahh Ahh
Ahh Ahh Ahh
Ahh Ahh Ahh
Ahh Ahh Ahh

(repeat, soprano)

No one's gonna take me alive,
The time has come to make things right,
You and I must fight for our rights,
You and I must fight to survive,

No one's gonna take me alive,
The time has come to make things right,
You and I must fight for our rights,
You and I must fight to survive

(solo)

No one's going to take me alive,
The time has come to make things right,
You and I must fight for our rights,
You and I must fight to survive.

(solo to outro)
