Recorded live at Massey Hall, Toronto (Canada), 15 May 1953.
This 2004 reissue of the classic Massey Hall concert adds "52nd Street
Theme" and five tracks performed only by Powell, Mingus and Roach as a
trio. Overall the sound quality is better than on the original release.
Was für ein Quintett! Eine Super-Allstar-Besetzung, die vor
über einem halben Jahrhundert miteinander jazzte. Etwa am 15. Mai
1953 in der Massey Hall in Toronto.
Francis Dreyfus hat sich schon lange verdient gemacht um den Jazz der
Vergangenheit. Überall in der Welt in Archiven fördert er
seit vielen Jahren Klangschätze des Jazz zutage.
Die daraus entstandene Never-Ending-Reihe mit den typischen Covers
präsentiert immer wieder Verblüffendes, insbesondere auch in
klanglicher Natur. Da leisten, wo's nötig ist, Dreyfus' Tonmeister
und Tontechniker ganze Arbeit.
So ist über die Jahre eine Jazzmusik-Galerie der ganz besonderen
Art entstanden, eine, die ihresgleichen sucht. Mit den ganz
Großen des Jazz.
Dieses Digipack enthält 13 Tracks, darunter Perdido, Cherokee,
Lullaby Of Birdland, I've Got You Under My Skin und natürlich A
Night In Tunisia.
