"...his capacity to swing in a classical mode recalls such classical-jazz alchemists as Lalo Schifrin and Andre Previn. Loussier's `jazz translation' of Vivaldi makes perfect sense. It also swings. And, there is first class soloing by all hands..."

Jazz Times (9/97, p.76)

In August 1996, Jacques Loussier joined the Telarc Jazz roster with a new recording of his favorite Bach interpretations (CD-83411). This month, for the first time ever, he lends his perfected craft to Vivaldi's best loved piece, The Four Seasons. Loussier employs his exemplary technique.

A superior French composer, Jacques Loussier has successfully mixed jazz and classical music for some time. This disc of the Vivaldi favorite finds Loussier in top form, adding jazz improvisation and cadenzas tastefully throughout, yet retaining a true classical form. Loussier seems to do this without falling into the trap of commercial banality, mixing tempos and not afraid of adding even a Latin feel to some of these compositions. Having a more straight-ahead jazz sensibility than, say, Claude Bolling, Loussier will delight both traditionalists and modernists alike. Recommended.
