This long-awaited greatest hits compilation from one of Scotland's best-known and best-loved stars follows her triumphant 2007 comeback album 'Songs Of Mass Destruction'. Songs from that album are included here, as well as tracks from her other three solo albums 'Diva', 'Medusa' and 'Bare', severalof them top ten hits. The collection also features two newly recorded cover versions of songs by Ash and Keane, and itsstriking cover photo was shot by rocker Bryan Adams. This limited edition includes a bonus disc and a DVD.



October of 2008 already saw a Best of Annie Lennox hit the streets in Europe, and in early 2009 those of us Stateside get the Annie Lennox Collection, which boasts enough hit singles to keep the punters happy, as well as a few keen B-sides to make the late-coming collectors to Lennox's work pick this up as well. While ubiquitous hits such as "Walking on Broken Glass" and "Sing" are included here, it's great that the set's compilers thought to add non-full-length selections such as "Love Song for a Vampire" to this mix. Her stellar covers such as the reading of Procol Harum's "A Whiter Shade of Pale" and the Freeman-Hughes standard "No More "I Love You's" are in the mix as well, making this a very well-rounded collection.

14 Songs sind auf The Annie Lennox Collection, dem ersten Best-Of-Album der schottischen Ausnahmesängerin mit tief empfundenem Soul in der Stimme zu hören, darunter zwei neue Perlen. Von Keane-Sänger Tom Chaplin stammt "Pattern Of My Life", ein Liebeslied, auf dem sie mit Altstimme geradezu theatralisch die Rollen der Liebenden spielt - sowie „Shining Light“, ein Cover der Hitsingle der irischen Band Ash. Dieser fröhliche Mutmacher im Stil der 60-ties-Girlie-Bands mit passendem Phil-Spector-Sound verursacht Gänsehaut und ist ein neuer Hitkandidat auf Annie Lennox‘ Album mit ihren größen Erfolgen seit 1992. Allein fünf Songs stammen aus dem Debütalbum Diva, darunter die Welthits "Why" und "Walking On Broken Glass" neben dem hinreissenden Gute-Laune-Liedchen „Little Birl“, rockigen „Precious“ und der getragenen Soulballade „Cold“. Aus Medusa, dem Album mit vielen Coverversionen, 1995 erschienen, wählte sie geschickt das Grammy-prämierte Liebe-Ja-Nein-Credo „No More I Love You's“ mit dem ansteckenden Gelächter im Hintergrund aus, und das Highlight „A Whiter Shade Of Pale“ von Procol Harum. In diesem Song liegt die volle Kraft und vokale Fähigkeit der Sängerin so zu intonieren und Chöre zu arrangieren, als wäre man bei einem andächtigen, inbrünstigen Gospel-Gottesdienst. Eine völlig andere, elektronisch verträumte und sehnsuchtsvolle Stimmung vermitteln die beiden Songs aus dem dritten Album Bare: „A Thousand Beautiful Things“ und „Pavement Cracks“. Auf ihrem letzten Studioalbum Songs Of Mass Destruction gab sich die Ex-Eurythmics-Sängerin betont kämpferisch und feministisch, wofür vor allem ihre Kooperation mit Sängerinnen aus aller Welt für die Single „Sing“ stand - ein internationaler, weiblicher und höchst emotionaler Stimmreigen. Spätestens dann wird klar, Annie Lennox hat mehr Soul im kleinen Finger als viele der hochgepuschten R‘n‘B-Püppchen made in USA. Eine gelungene Auswahl für alte Fans und zukünftige.
