The Best of Led Zeppelin is a two-volume greatest hits compilation album series by English rock group Led Zeppelin released by Atlantic Records. Volume one, Early Days, was released on November 23, 1999 while volume two, Latter Days, was released on March 21, 2000. Early Days is composed of selected tracks from the period in the band's history dating 1968 to 1971. Latter Days covered 1973 to 1979. Early Days debuted at #71 on the Billboard's Pop Albums chart and Latter Days debuted at #81. A combined disc set, called Early Days and Latter Days, was released on November 19, 2002. Both Early Days and Early Days and Latter Days were certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. Both volumes are now out of print, and were replaced with the 2007 two-disc compilation Mothership.

Latter Days: The Best of Led Zeppelin, Vol. 2 offers ten highlights from Houses of the Holy, Physical Graffiti, Presence, and In Through the Out Door. While all fans can argue about missing album tracks - some may choose "The Rover" and "Over the Hills and Far Away" for should-have-beens, while others take "Custard Pie," "For Your Life," and "Hots on for Nowhere" - the only true staples missing are "Dancing Days" and the exquisite faux-Brazilian "Fool in the Rain." Thus, this is a pretty fine compilation for the casual fan, the kind who only wants the songs he hears on the radio all the time (such as "The Song Remains the Same," "No Quarter," "Trampled Underfoot," "Kashmir," "In the Evening"). Of course, any true Zeppelin enthusiast will want the full albums, but as a sampler of their last four records, Latter Days is just fine.

Stephen Thomas Erlewine - All Music Guide

The glory days of Led Zeppelin are chronicled comprehensively in Atlantic Record's 1999 Early Days best-of set, which leaves this '73-to-'79 package shorter on obvious crowd-pleasers. Still, this secondary set shows just how powerful Zeppelin were at their zenith. Taken from the band's final four albums, the songs here--"No Quarter," "Houses of the Holy," and "Song Remains the Same" among them--brought audiences to their feet in stadiums across the world while the Zeppelin juggernaut trampled their competition underfoot. Zeppelin defined hard rock, but were also capable of a delicacy that's easy to overlook; indeed, that dimension is missing from the picture of Zep offered here. Otherwise, these two companion volumes offer a rewarding introduction to Led Zeppelin.
