On Mandala, his first record for Domo, Kitarō attempts to craft a new age-influenced rock opera with classical underpinnings. Familiar elements such as the spacy synthesizers are present, but an overpowering electric guitar grips the record and brings his music into a new realm. It's not always successful, but it's one of the most intriguing records Kitarō has released in years.
