After the fall of the House of VdGG and a stint as a truck driver and other jobs, Jaxon went into teaching (maths at first) and different other projects, never really retiring from the music scene, since the man was bitten by the music bug. Having appeared in a few Hammill albums, another few Long Hello (the remaining three VdGG member’s group), but by the late 80’s Jaxon wasn’t really all that active: between 86 (the last of multi VdGG member projects) and 91 (two short works under his name, a cassette only Savages and an EP Hazard Dreams), he played only in one album of Sarah James Morris. With the ‘92-released Tonewall Stands, Jaxon comes back seriously to business and this album is very likely to interest VdGG fans.

As a matter of fact, this album is important enough to Jaxon’s career that his website bears the Tonewall name and by listening to this album, it’s easy to understand why. With the opening Tumbledown and its multiple winds (including bagpipes as well), you just know that this could be one of VDGG alumni’s best records. Jaxon’s playing is instantly recognizable and if it wasn’t for some disputable choices in the drums dept (this the early 90’s still with its major flaws), Beat The Schism could be easily standing on a Graaf album, the same could be said of Touchpaper Blue and a few more. Other tracks are more in the semi-new-age spirit as Corpus Cristi or Polar Bear, etc…and usually these tracks present a slightly far-east feel pervading through them. In some ways most of this album is somewhat comparable with the improvisation disc (the second one) of VdGG’s Present album of 05.

TWS is such an important album in Jaxon’s second coming into music, but the same year, the British gov’t would award the man with research credits/budgets to search with Jaxon’s experiments with the Soundbeam. This instruments working a bit on the reverse principle of the Theremin, and the project ultimately would fail to arise much interest, but throwing Jaxon into the ideas of music for autistic and other handicap children via his Soundbeam. This has kept the man happy for much of the last two decades, outside his collaborations and guesting on many albums and the recent VdGG stints.
