The Great Songs Of Indifference". "Loudmouth" dokumentiert einen Ausschnit aus dem Schaffen eines echten Charakters. The Greatest Hits von Bob Geldof solo und mit den Boomtown Rats sind Songs mit Charakter.

Vom wilden Punker zum Rock-Heiligen war es für Bob Geldof ein steiniger Weg. Daß der Blick zurück lohnt, zeigt Loudmouth mit Geldofs schönsten Solos und Hits seiner ehemaligen Band Boomtown Rats.

I DON'T LIKE MONDAYS

The silicon chip inside her head
gets switched to overload
and nobody's gonna go to school today
she's gonna make them stay at home
And Daddy doesn't understand it
He always said she was good as gold
And he can see no reason
Cos there are no reasons
What reasons do you need to be shown

Chorus:
Tell me why
I don't like Mondays
I want to shoot
The whole day down

The telex machine is kept so clean
and it types to waiting world.
And Mother feels so shocked
Father's world is rocked
And their thoughts turn to
Their own little girl
Sweet 16 ain't that peachy keen
No it ain't so neat to admit defeat,
They can see no reasons
Cos there are no reasons
What reasons do you need to be shown

Repeat Chorus

All the playing's stopped in the playground now
She wants to play with her toys awhile
And school's out early and soon we'll be learning
That the lesson today is how to die
And then the bullhorn crackles
And the captain tackles
With the problems and the how's and why's
And he can see no reasons
Cos there are no reasons
What reasons do you need to die

Repeat Chorus

lyrics and music by Bob Geldof

THIS IS THE WORLD CALLING

I hear a heart beat
It's ringing out across the universe
It sounds so lost and lonely
It must come from somewhere deep inside of us
And the operator says
"All is calm
All is quiet
Close your eyes and sleep tonight"

This is the world calling
This is earth
This is the world calling
This is us

I'm on a train now
I'm moving through the yellow fields of rape
There's so much beauty
I wished that I believed enough to pray
Then the operator says
"Spinning 'round, you're wrapped in blue
There's no-one looks as good as you"

This is the world calling
This is us
And it goes on and on

What we going to do because it can't go on
Wrap me in your arms and keep me warm tonight

This is the world calling
God help us

RAT TRAP

There was an awful lot of rocking going on that night,
Cruising time for the young bright lights,
Just down past the gasworks, by the meat factory door,
The five lamp boyswere coming on strong.
The Saturday night city beat had already started
The pulse of the corner boys sprang into action
And young Billy watched it all under the yellow street light
And said "tonight of all nights there's gonna be a fight"

He doesn't like it living here in this town
He says the traps have been sprung long before he was born
He says "hope bites the dust behind all the closed doors
And pus and grime ooze from its scab crusted sores.
There's screaming and crying in the high rise blocks"
It's a rat trap Billy and you're already caught
But you can make it if you want to or you need it bad enough
You're young and good looking and you're acting kind of tough
Anyway it's Saturday night time to see what's going down.
Put on the bright suit Billy, head for the right side of town
It's only 8 o'clock but you're already bored
You don't know what it is but there's got to be more
You'd better find a way out, hey kick down the door
It's a rat trap and you've been caught

In this town Billy says "everybody tries to tell you what to do"
In this town Billy says "everybody says you gotta follow rules."
Hey you walk up to those traffic lights,
Switch from your left to right
You push in that button, and when that button comes alight
It tells you
"Walk don't walk
Talk don't talk"
Hey Billy take a walk...with me.
Little Judy's trying to watch "top of the pops"
But mum and dad are fighting don't they ever stop,
She take down her coat and walks out on the street,
It's cold on that road, but it's got that home beat,
Deep down in her pockets she finds 50p.,
Now is that any way for a young girl to be,
"I'm gonna get out of school work in some factory,
Work all the hours God gave me get myself a little easy money"
Now, now, now na na.

Her mind's made up, she walks down the road,
Her hands in her pockets, coat buttoned 'gainst the cold,
She finds Billy down at the Italion cafe
And when he's drunk it's hard to understand what Billy says
But then he mumbles in his coffee and suddenly roars,
"It's a rat trap and we've been caught...."

THE GREAT SONG OF INDIFFERENCE

I don't mind if you go
I don't mind if you take it slow
I don't mind if you say yes or no
I don't mind at all

I don't care if you live or die
Couldn't care less if you laugh or cry
I don't mind if you crash or fly
I don't mind at all

I don't mind if you come or go
I don't mind if you say no
Couldn't care less baby let it flow
'Cause I don't care at all

Na na na, etc.

I don't care if you sink or swim
Lock me out or let me in
Where I'm going or where I've been
I don't mind at all

I don't mind if the government falls
Implements more futile laws
I don't care if the nation stalls
And I don't care at all

I don't care if they tear down trees
I don't feel the hotter breeze
Sink in dust in dying sees
And I don't care at all

Na na na etc.

I don't mind if culture crumbles
I don't mind if religion stumbles
I can't hear the speakers mumble
And I don't mind at all

I don't care if the Third World fries
It's hotter there I'm not surprised
Baby I can watch whole nations die
And I don't care at all

I don't mind I don't mind I don't mind I don't mind
I don't mind I don't mind
I don't mind at all

Na na na etc.

I don't mind about people's fears
Authority no longer hears
Send a social engineer
And I don't mind at all

LOVE OR SOMETHING

It was last night baby when I caught your eye
Sssh don't tell nobody but I almost died
And like a beach bunny sobbing on a shag pile rug
I thought of "Going to a Go-Go"
And the Family Stone frug
So we twist and shout then when it's feeling great
She drifts away
(Talk talk baby whaddya say)
She walk away
(Walk walk baby why don't you stay)
But like a cardboard suitcase in the pouring rain
She falls apart on me and then we start again
It must be love
Or something else

Well I talk with her and then I stay all night
We did everything but it
Still it felt alright
She was careful 'bout her health so it didn't hurt
When she started dropping pills in her blue grass skirt
Then she twist and dip and do the flip-flop slide
She drifts away
(Talk talk baby whaddya say)
She walk away
(Walk walk baby why don't you stay)
Well trembling like an earthquake, slipping like soap
I don't believe with her I'll ever give up hoping
This is love
Or something else

Still I never take for granted that what's new
Am I overstating what at root
Seems cute
And more to boot
The point is moot
But up to you
Is this love
Or something else

I don't believe in love baby if I'm honest with myself
I don't believe it lasts long it's kinda like your health
Hey everything is spinning round down the laundromat
And love is like your clothes it's only useful while it lasts
Save your soul

Dans se monde il n'ya qu'une femme pour chaque homme
Et je pense qu'il n'ya qu'un age pour chaque age
Et ca c'est vraiment vrai

BANANA REPUBLIC

Chorus:
Banana Republic
Septic Isle
Screaming in the suffering sea
It sounds like crying
Everywhere I go
Everywhere I see
The black and blue uniforms
Police and priests

And I wonder do you wonder
While you're sleeping with your whore
That sharing beds with history
Is like a-licking running sores
Forty shades of green yeah
Sixty shades of red
Heroes going cheap these days
Price; a bullet in the head

repeat chorus

Take your hand and lead you
Up a garden path
Let me stand aside here
And watch you pass
Striking up a soldier's song
I know that tune
It begs too many questions
And answers to,

repeat chorus

The purple and the pinstripe
Mutely shake their heads
A silense shrieking volumes
A violence worse than the condemn
Stab you in the back yeah
Laughing in your face
Glad to see the place again
It's a pitty nothing's changed

repeat chorus

CRAZY

Here comes the night again, babe.
Same night as every night, babe
And in the candle light, babe
Your beauty's like a knife
That slices through my life and...

You drive me crazy
Makes my world fall apart
I've been trying lately
To take control of my heart
You drive me crazy.

All days are good or bad days
But these days most days are bad days
And in this sacred place, babe
The days all fade away
When I see your face and...

You drive me crazy
Makes my world fall apart
I've been trying lately
To take control of my heart
You drive me crazy...

And when I saw you tonight
You know I almost died.
I'd never seen anyone
Lovelier than you,
As beautiful as you...

You drive me crazy.

THE ELEPHANTS GRAVEYARD

Did you slip the noose when the beast broke loose
The elephants graveyard ain't the place to be
And white turns black, dies of heart attack
The elephants graveyard needs the change of scene.
You got the money, but who needs the tension
And fear's no cheaper on the old age pension
There's just one thing that I forgot to mention
What've you got to lose when you know

You're guilty 'till proven guilty
Isn't that the law
Guilty 'till proven guilty
That's what we saw

Do the blue rinse shuffle with the beach boy muscle
Waiting all your life for this golf cart life
You see the judge and then you check the jury
She does her hair and calls the lawyer curti
It's Disneyland under martial law
Titch on the TV tell me what you saw

They wre guilty 'till proven guilty etc....

Justice isn't blind
It just looks the other way
Not from want of trying
I have nothing left to say

The sky burns bright, 24 hour night
And you don't pay death duties when your on death duty
You came here looking for the peace and quiet
The healthy air and the healthy diet
The sea's so calm but the street's a riot
Taken years off your life when you've no years left to give
Yeah you're

Guilty 'till proven guilty etc.

Shame shame shimmy shame.
Shame shame shimmy shame.

SOMEONE'S LOOKING AT YOU

On a night like this I deserve to get kissed at least once or twice
You come over to my place screaming blue murder, needing someplace to hide.
Well, I wish you'd keep quiet,
Imaginations run riot,
In these paper-thin walls.
And when the place comes ablaze with a thousand dropped names
I don't know who to call.
But I got a friend over there in the government block
And he knows the situation and he's taking stock,
I think I'll call him up now
Put him on the spot, tonight.

They saw me there in the square when I was shooting my mouth off
About saving some fish.
Now could that be construed as some radical's views or some liberals' wish.
And it's so hot outside,
And the air is so sweet,
And when the pressure drop is heavy I don't wanna hear you speak.
You know most killing is committed at 90 degrees.
When it's too hot to breathe
And it's too hot to think.

There's always someone looking at you.
S-s-s-s-someone.
They're looking at you.

And I wish you'd stop whispering.
Don't flatter yourself, nobody's listening.
Still it makes me nervous, those things you say.
You may as well
Shout it from the roof
Scream it from your lungs
Spit it from you mouth
There's a spy in the sky
There's a noise on the wire
There's a tap on the line
And for every paranoid's desire...

There's always Somone looking at you.
S-s-s-s-someone looking at you...
They're always looking at you.

written by Bob Geldof

SHE'S SO MODERN

La-la-la-la
She's so 20th century
She's so 1970's
She knows the right things to say
She's got the right clothes to wear
Cos she's a modern girl, oh yeah
A modern girl yeah, ga-ga-ga-ga-ga.
A modern girl, oh yeah.

And Suzie is a jewel,
She flashes when she smiles.
She's cunning and she's clever
She's got the lowdown in her files.
Magenta is the best
You know whe really makes me laugh
She's always tryin' her impressions
She wants to be a photograph, I gotta say now

She's so 20th century
She's so etc....

Jean confided to me
She's Mona Lisa's biggest fan
She drew a mustache on her face
She's always seen her as a man
And Charlie ain't no Nazi
She likes to wear her leather boots
Cos it's exciting for the veterans
And it's a tonic for the troops.

She's so 20th century, oh yeah.

HOUSE ON FIRE

I heard Tarzan outside playing on the Jungle Blues
I know 'cos I saw him shimmer in a Kenyan pool
Coming on in the vines with his leopard-skin lioncloth cool
Bony Watusi fingers
Beating on the bark of a tree
Now Tarzan and me, well, obviously we're like that
Me and Tarzan, yeah we get on like a house on fire

Look at cool Louise she's the one with the knick-knack eyes
She's only 17 but she knows how to make boys fight
Yeah she'll slit you with her eyes an' she'll slash you
With her cut-back smile
Ah she's as cruel as a pig but we love her like a house on fire
Louise and me now obviously we're like that
Yes me and Louise we'll make it like a house on fire

I saw a raw white angel executing loop-de-loops in the sky
Drawing lazy spirals with his slipstream smoke as he silently
Passed us by
But his halo got too heavy so he hung it down around his waist
Doing halo hula-hoops, executing loop-de-loops takes a lot of
Skill and bad taste
Now the angel and me obviously we're like that
Me and the devil we get it on like a house on fire

THE BEAT OF THE NIGHT

(Sorry, this lyrics is not available yet, please help us and send the missing lyrics!)

DIAMOND SMILES

"Traffic's wild tonight"
Diamond smiles her cocktail smile.
Tonight she's in heavy disquise.
She looks at her wrist to clock the passing time.

"Weather's mild tonight"
She wonders will her glamour survive,
She wonders do they notice her eyes,
And can they see she's going down a third time.

Everybody tries,
It's Dale Carnegie gone wild,
But Barbara Cartland's child
long ago perfected the motionless glide.

In the low voltage noise,
Diamond seems so sure and so poised
She shimmers for the bright young boys,
And laugh's "Love is for others, but me it destroys"

The girl in the cake
Jumped out too soon by mistake,
Somebody said the whole things half baked
And Diamond lifts her glass and says "cheers"

She stands to the side
There's no more to this than meets the eye,
Everybody drinks Martini dry,
And talks about clothes and the latest styles.

Chorus:
They said she did it
With grace.
They said she did it
With style.
They said she did it all
Before she died
Oh No
I remember Diamond's smile

Nobody saw her go,
They said they should have noticed
'cos her dress was cut so low.
Well it only goes to show
Ha, ha, how many real men any of us know.

She went up the stairs,
Stood up on the vanity chair,
Tied her lame belt around the chandelier,
And went out kicking at the perfumed air.

Repeat Chorus

LIKE CLOCKWORK

I'm not disconnected
I'm not unaware
I'm in one place at one time
I'm neither here nor there
I'm hooked to the mainstream,
Tuned into the world
Plugged into my surroundings,
I'm not out on a limb.
I'm thinking in a straight line,
I'm thinking that these thoughts are mine,
My heart is beating oh so fast
I feel the hours crashing
Because my mind keeps time like clockwork,
And I think in sync like clockwork.

She's done away with emotion,
She sees things clearly now.
She says she sees it all from her room
And it looks so small from her room
It's all right, it's all right,
I'm on your side...for a while,
She thinks time is a concept by which we measure our pain
(She'll say it again)
She wants to say it again, but she don't have time,
And now her heart beats time like clockwork
And she thinks in sync like clockwork

Count the hours, count the months and minutes,
You're born in tears and die in pain and that's your limit
You're lookin' for a reason but there's none
There, why don't you admit it
We'll make the most of what we've got, that's the tickit
My, my, my.

I stayed in that room a long, long time
And watched the seasons gliding past
And hey...what's the matter?,
We've got time, lots of time
It's alright, it's alright,
I'm on your side for a while,
We'll wind up
We'll slow down
We'll speed up or slow down and we'll maybe overwind...
but now or minds, etc.

ROOM 19 (SHA LA LA LA LEE)

Sha-la-la-la-la
Sha-la-la-la-lee
Sha-la-la-la-la
I feel free

When I woke up I was freezing
Shaking like a leaf
I was stuck up on a shelf
With the other guys in Room 19

Then the brain here right beside me
Speaking telepathically
Said "Hi, my name is Stalin
Glad to see you here in Room 19"

Yeah Tchaikovsky played the music
While Pasternak wrote poetry
As they sliced our brains to study
Why we ended up in Room 19

Well 'ol Sakharov was outraged
And said "Exactly what you mean?"
And Lenin said "There is no Heavan
So I can't believe in Room 19"

Set me free, free, free, etc.

MARY OF THE 4TH FORM

Sittin' in the front row
Mary of the fourth form
Turnin' all the boys on
She's turnin' all their heads around
Hitchin' up her short skirt
Stretchin' out her long legs
Pullin' up her stockings
She's combing out her long hair
Starin' at the teacher
Openin' her lips wide
Shiftin' in her seat. Yeah,
She slowly moves her hips aside

But in the middle of the night
She wakes her Mom to turn out the light
Her make-up's on and her jeans are skintight
And she's heading to the Pillar Bar
Johnnie looks alright tonight she thinks
He gives her a smoke and he buys her a drink
He shoots a frame and they head off into the night.

Mary of the fourth form.
Mary of the fourth form.
Mary of the fourth form.
Mary of the fourth form.

Teacher's losing control
Thankfully the bell rings
Mary's left all alone
With no one but the teacher
She quickly drops her pencil
And slowly bends to get it
Teacher is a natural man
His hand moves out to touch her
She straightens and looks around, yeah
She laughs and leaves the room, yeah
Heartbreak for the teacher
Sweet dreams for young Mary

But in the middle of the night
She wakes her Dad to turn out the light
Her make-up's on and her jeans are skintight
And she's headed to the Pillar Bar

Johnnie looks great tonight, she thinks
He gives her a smoke and he buys her a drink
Shoots off a frame and they head off into the night.

Mary of the fourth form.
Mary of the fourth form.
Mary of the fourth form.
Mary of the fourth form.

LOOKIN' AFTER NUMBER ONE

The world owes me a living
I've waited on this dole queue too long
I've been standin' in the rain for fifteen minutes
That's a quarter of an hour too long.

I'll take all they can give me
And then I'm gonna ask for more
Cos the money's buried deep in the bank of England
And I want the key to the vault

CHORUS:
I'm gonna take your money
Count your loss when I'm gone.
I'm alright, Jack,
I'm lookin' after number one.

If I want something I get it
Don't matter what I have to do
I'll step on your face, on your mother's grave
Never underestimate me I'm nobody's fool

Repeat chorus

Don't wanna be like you.
Don't wanna live like you.
Don't wanna talk like you, at all.

Don't give me love thy neighbour
Don't give me charity
Don't give me peace and love or the good lord above
You only get in my way with your stupid ideas

I am an island
Entire of myself
And when I get old, older than today
I'll never need anybody's help in any way.

Repeat chorus

Don't wanna be like you.
Don't wanna live like you.
Don't wanna talk like you, at all.

I'm gonna be like
I'm gonna be like
I'm gonna be like ME!
