Recorded live in Los Angeles, and incorporating an expandedensemble, including violin, keyboard and percussion, 'Skin And Bones' is far more than simply a stripped-down collection of Foo Fighters hits. Each song has been carefully rearranged for the new instruments, which results in classic trackssuch as 'Next Year' and 'Everlong' being given a new lease of life. Whilst Grohl and co are well known for their stadium-filling rock shows, this new format shows that Foo Fighters can be every bit as entertaining when unplugged in a more intimate setting.

Here's Dave Grohl as you've seldom seen him before: not just live, but as the title Skin And Bones may hint, stripped down to his acoustic core. Well actually, not quite. Rather than just Grohl and a six-string, this collection--recorded at the Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles--harks back to the ensemble feel of Nirvana's 1994 album Unplugged in New York, familiar songs rebuilt by the Foos and a cast of musicians including violinist Petra Haden, keyboardist Rami Jaffee, and even a member of that now legendary Nirvana session, Pat Smear. Stripped of the anthemic breeziness and solid, muscular riffing that have become Foo trademarks, Skin And Bones relies more on prettifying the arrangements with strings, shakers, and slow splashes of cymbal, and occasionally uncovering new levels of pathos beneath the sweat and grit. "Walking After You" feels custom-written for this format, while the crescendos of "My Hero" gain a little more humanity in this more intimate setting. And when the bigger hits come, Grohl makes up for the absence of feedback and fireworks with sheer frontman charisma, summoning up some throaty Springsteen emotiveness on "Best of You" and climaxing with a heroic "Everlong."

Vorneweg, für Chronisten: Sechs Lieder entstammen dem In Your Hand-Bestseller ("Razor", "Over & Out", "Another Round", "Cold Day In The Sun", "Friend Of A Friend", "Best Of You"), vier von The Colour And The Shape ("Walking After You", "My Hero", "February Stars", "Everlong"), einer aus There Is Nothing Left To Lose ("Next Year"), einer von Foo Fighters ("Big Me") und ein weiterer von One By One ("Times Like These"). Da Videos zu ihren Singles in der Geschichte der Foo Fighters von Anfang eine große Bedeutung hatten, erscheint die vorliegende CD - um fünf Tracks (On The Mend, Still, See You, What If I Do?, Ain't The Life) und Features erweitert!

Given that the Foo Fighters released a double-album comprised of one electric record and one acoustic album, it's no surprise that they performed several acoustic concerts on its supporting tour. One of these, a stop at the Pantages Theater in Los Angeles, is documented on the 2006 live album Skin and Bones album, which culls 15 highlights from the show. Although the Foo Fighters are performing on acoustics and are buttressed by such guest musicians as Petra Haden and Dave Grohl's former Nirvana running partner Pat Smear, the band doesn't sound radically different here, nor do they reinvent their material: they merely play their music, culled largely from the last album plus the hits, with the skill of professionals and the heart of true believers, which makes this an engaging show if not necessarily a truly compelling one. Part of the problem is that the production is too crisp and clean, which only accentuates the group's seamless performances: there may be grit in Grohl's voice, but not in how it's recorded. This isn't a deal-breaker, but it makes an album that could have been special into one that is merely good. One for the fans, then.

Stephen Thomas Erlewine - All Music Guide

Since his old band made the greatest unplugged album ever, Dave Grohl deserves credit for simply having the stones to release a stripped-down Foo Fighters disc. But Skin and Bones - recorded live during three recent Los Angeles shows - lacks the revelatory power of its predecessor: Grohl sometimes seems unwilling to stick with bare-bones arrangements, pushing his giant band (which included the Wallflowers' Rami Jaffee, violinist Petra Haden and former Foo Pat Smear) into unnecessary big-rock crescendos in the final bars. Still, the album's best and most restrained moments - the mostly guitar-and-voice opener, "Razor"; the plaintive, folky take on "Big Me"; and the climactic, slow-building "Everlong" - illustrate how Grohl's songwriting gift moved him out of Kurt Cobain's shadow in the first place.

Razor

Wake up it's time
We need to find a better place to hide
Make up your mind
I need to know I need to know tonight

Sweet and divine
Razor of mine
Sweet and divine
Razorblade shine

Patience my dear
We could spend a lifetime waiting here
Maybe this time
I hope I get the chance to say goodbye

Sweet and divine
Razor of mine
Sweet and divine
Razorblade shine

Day after day
Cutting away
Day after day
But anyway

Wake up it's time
We need to find a better place to hide
Make up your mind
I need to know I need to know tonight

Sweet and divine

Over And Out

Restless little one
Comfortable and warm
Let me fall apart
Crippled in your arms

Chase me through the dark
Ready on your mark
First to reach the stars
Wins a broken heart
One that broke apart
Shattered from the start

Are you there?
Do you read me?
Are you there?
I don't feel you anymore

Cages and alarms
Keeping us from harm
I will be the guard
Hope to rest upon

Could I be the one
To break a will so strong
Pray it won't be long
Til your will is gone
Everything is done
Nothing left at all

Are you there?
Do you read me?
Are you there?
I don't feel you anymore

Are you there?
Will you give in?
Are you there?
If I give out
Over and out

Cages and alarms
Keeping us from harm
I will be the guard
Hope to rest upon
Everything is done
Nothing left at all

Are you there?
Do you read me?
Are you there?
I don't feel you anymore

Are you there?
Will you give in?
Are you there?
If I give out

Walking After You

Tonight I'm tangled in my blanket of clouds...
dreaming aloud.
Things just won't do without you, matter of fact.
I'm on your back, I'm on your back, I'm on your back.

If you'd accept surrender, I'll give up some more.
Weren't you adored?
I cannot be without you, matter of fact...
I'm on your back.

If you walk out on me, I'm walking after you.
If you walk out on me, I'm walking after you.

Another heart is cracked in two, I'm on your back

I cannot be without you, matter of fact.
I'm on your back, I'm on your back, I'm on your back.

If you walk out on me, I'm walking after you.
If you walk out on me, I'm walking after you.
If you walk out on me, I'm walking after you.

Marigold

She's there in case I want it all
He's scared cause I want
She's there in case I want it all
He's scared cause I want

All in all the clock is slow
Six color pictures all in a row
Of a marigold

She's there in case I want it all
He's scared cause I want
She's there in case I want it all
He's scared cause I want

All in all the clock is slow
Six color pictures all in a row
Of a marigold

She's there in case I want it all
He's scared cause I want
She's there in case I want it all
He's scared cause I want

All in all the clock is slow
Six color pictures all in a row
Of a marigold

My Hero

Too alarming now to talk about
Take your pictures down and shake it out
Truth or consequence, say it aloud
Use that evidence, race it around

There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
He's ordinary

Don't the best of them bleed it out
While the rest of them peter out
Truth or consequence, say it aloud
Use that evidence, race it around

There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
He's ordinary

kudos my hero leaving all the best
You know my hero, the one that's on

There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
He's ordinary

There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
He's ordinary

Next Year

I'm in the sky tonight
There I can keep by your side
Watching the wide world riot and hiding out
I'll be coming home next year
Into the sun we climb
Climbing our wings will burn white
Everyone strapped in tight
We'll ride it out
I'll be coming home next year
Come on get on get on
Take it till life runs out
No one can find us now
Living with our heads underground
Into the night we shine
Lighting the way we glide by
Catch me if I get too high
If I come down
I'll be coming home next year
I'm in the sky tonight
There I can keep by your side
Watching the whole world wind around and round
I'll be coming home next year
Come on get on get on
Take it till life runs out
No one can find us now
Living with our heads underground
I'll be coming home next year
I'll be coming home next year
Everything's alright up here
If I come down
I'll be coming home next year
Say good-bye now
Say good-bye now
Say good-bye now
Say good-bye now
I'll be coming home next year
I'll be coming home next year
Everything's alright up here
If I come down
I'll be coming home next year
I'll be coming home next year
I'll be coming home next year
I'll be coming home next year
I'll be coming home next year
I'll be coming home next year
I'll be coming home next year
I'll be coming home next year
I'll be coming home next year
I'll be coming home next year

Another Round

When she goes storming out,
I run for cover
Rolling like thunder clouds,
Hanging above her,
Ring in the witching hour,
Spells that I'm singing,
Rain come and drown me out,
Sinking deep below

Can you go another round?
I will follow you down and out,
Let's go another round,
I will follow you down and

We could just lay around,
Stare at the ceiling,
Want to forget about,
One for the feeling,
Room full of photographs,
Box full of letters,
Come on make it last,
Nothing else matters right now

Can you go another round?
I will follow you down and out,
Let's go another round,
I will follow you down and out

Instrumental

Can you go another round?
I will follow you down and out,
Lets' go another round,
I will follow you down and out,

Let's go another round?
I will bother you down and out,
Let's go another round,
I will follow you down and out

uhhh... uhhh...

Big Me

when I talk about it
it carries on
reasons only knew
when I talk about it
Aries or treasons
all renew

big me to talk about it
I could stand to prove
if we can get around it
I know that it's true

when I talked about it
carried on
reasons only knew

but it's you I fell into

(repeat)

well I talked about it
put it on
never was it true

Cold Day In The Sun

Took the high dive into your brain
And you made your only calls
You just might wear your welcome out if you don't let it go.

And there's nothing that you couldn't say
Cause you said it all before
Think it's time you walk this lonely road all on your own

It's your cold day in the sun
Looks like your bleeding heart
Has already won

Wish I could take it away
And save you from yourself
You get so lost inside your head like no one else

Looking for someone to blame
Blame me all along
You'll take the heat, but you would never take the fall

It's your cold day in the sun
Looks like your bleeding heart
Has already won

You're so afraid
That you are the only one
That you are the only one
You know

Don't be afraid
Cause your not the only one
You're not the only one
I know

It's your cold day in the sun
Looks like your bleeding heart
Has already won

It's your cold day in the sun
Looks like your bleeding heart
Has already won

Skin And Bones

Lately I've been measuring
Seems my time is growing thin
Wind me up and watch me spin
Watch me spin
Watch me spin

Skin and bones
Skin and bones
Skin and bones don't you know?

Skin and bones
Skin and bones
Skin and bones don't you know?

I'm just skin and bones

All worn out and nothing fits
Brennevin and cigarettes
The more I give the less I get
But I'm all set
I'm all set

Skin and bones
Skin and bones
Skin and bones don't you know?

Skin and bones
Skin and bones
Skin and bones don't you know?

I'm just skin and bones X5

Deep within this frame of mind
Heart of hearts oh valentine
Tell my mom I'm doing fine
Doing fine
Doing fine

Skin and bones
Skin and bones
Skin and bones don't you know?

Skin and bones
Skin and bones
Skin and bones don't you know?

Skin and bones
Skin and bones
Skin and bones don't you know?

I'm just skin and bones X4

I'm just skin and hey!

February Stars

intro/chorus

I'm hanging on
here until I'm gone
I'm right where I belong
just hanging on

verse 1

even though
I watched you come and go
how was I to know
you'd steal the show

one day ill have enough to gamble
ill wait to hear your final call
and bet it all

I'm hanging on
here until I'm gone
I'm right where I belong
just hanging on

verse 2

even though
passed this time alone
somewhere so unknown
it heals the soul

you'll ask for walls I'll build them higher
we'll lie in shadows of them all
I'd stand but they're much too tall
and I fall
outro
FEBRUARY STARS!
FLOATING IN THE DARK!
TEMPORARY SCARS!
FEBRUARY STARS!
(repeat 4 times)

Times Like These

I am a one way motorway
I'm the one that drives away
then follows you back home
I am a street light shining
I'm a wild light blinding bright
burning off alone
it's times like these you learn to live again
it's times like these you give and give again
it's times like these you learn to love again
it's times like these time and time again
I am a new day rising
I'm a brand new sky
to hang the stars upon tonight
I am a little divided
do I stay or run away
and leave it all behind?
it's times like these you learn to live again
it's times like these you give and give again
it's times like these you learn to love again
it's times like these time and time again

Friend Of A Friend

He needs a quiet room
With a lock to keep him in
It's just a quiet room
And he's there

He plays an old guitar
With a coin found by the phone
It was his friends guitar
That he played

He's never been in love
But he knows just what love is
He says nevermind
And no one speaks

He thinks he drinks too much
Cause when he tells his two best friends
"I think I drink too much"
No one speaks
No one speaks
No one speaks

He plays an old guitar
With a coin found by the phone
It was his friends guitar
That he played

When he plays
No one speaks
No one speaks
When he plays
No one speaks

Best Of You

I’ve got another confession to make
I’m your fool
Everyone’s got their chains to break
Holdin’ you

Would you born to resist or be abused?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Are you gone and onto someone new?

I needed somewhere to hang my head
Without your noose
You gave me something that I didn’t have
But had no use
I was too weak to give in
Too strong to lose
My heart is under arrest again
But I break loose
My head is giving me life or death
But I can’t choose
I swear I’ll never give in
No, I refuse

Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Has someone taken your faith?
Its real, the pain you feel
You trust, you must
Confess

Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Oh...

ooooh,oh,oh
ooooh,oh,oh
ooooh,oh,oh
ooooh,oh,oh
Has someone taken your faith?
Its real, the pain you feel
The life, the love
You'd die to heal
The hope that starts
The broken hearts
You trust, you must
Confess

Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?

I’ve got another confession my friend
I’m no fool
I’m getting tired of starting again
Somewhere new

Would you born to resist or be abused?
I swear I’ll never give in
I refuse

Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Has someone taken your faith?
Its real, the pain you feel
You trust, you must
Confess
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!

Everlong

Hello
I've waited here for you
Everlong

Tonight
I throw myself into
And out of the red out of her head she sang

Come down and waste away with me
Down with me
Slow how you wanted it to be
I'm over my head, out of her head she sang

And I wonder
When I sing along with you
If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again
The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to stop when I say when
She sang

Breathe out
So I can breathe you in
Hold you in

And now
I know you've always been
Out of your head, out of my head I sang

And I wonder
When I sing along with you
If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again
The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to stop when I say when
She sang

And I wonder
When I sing along with
If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again
The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to stop when I say when
