This live compilation of Chuck Berry recordings released by British budget reissue label Prism Leisure earns its initial demerit for misrepresentation. It does not contain the original studio recordings of the tracks listed as released originally by Chess Records, but there is no disclaimer, even in small print, to alert the potential customer, while the title Greatest Hits implies that the hit versions are included. If you look carefully, the back cover says, "Greatest Hits -- Live," but the front cover does not. In fact, no source at all is given for the recordings, but aural evidence suggests that this is just another in the endless series of reissues of the show recorded in September 1969 at the Toronto Rock 'n' Roll Festival and, like other performances at that event, endlessly repackaged under different titles. The sound quality is little better than what bootleggers call an "audie," i.e., a recording made by an amateur out in the audience. Berry is typically enthusiastic, and he alters and adds lyrics here and there. But this is hardly an album to be recommended, at any price.
