Tamás Berki was born in Budapest on May 16, 1946. He received his dilpoma in jazz singing from the Béla Bartók Conservatory, and subsequently was a teacher there for 5 years. He became a principal contributor at the Hungarian Cultural Institution, later worked as a casual radio and television programme editor and a journalist, then returned to teaching. In 1976 he won the International Youth Jazz Singing Competition in Poland. Albums of his own compositions include Real Paradise (Igazi paradicsom, 1984), Good Morning (Jó reggelt, 1990), and The Bridge (A híd, 2004). He has also contributed to records of several renowned performers and bands. He is a frequent guest soloist with the Benkó Dixieland Band. In 1985 he appeared in a top list called the Best of Europe. He has given concerts in several countries of the world. Berki is still singing actively with his band Shabu-Shabu and as guest soloist, and is teaching at the Jazz Faculty of the Ferenc Liszt Music Academy and the Art School of the Hungarian Musicians and Dancers Union. In 2004 he received the Gábor Szabó Award for his lifetime achievements.


Berki Tamás 1946. május 16-án született Budapesten. A Bartók Béla Jazz Konzervatórium Ének Szakának elvégzése után ugyanott 5 évig volt tanár, majd a Magyar Művelődési Intézet főmunkatársa, később külsős rádiószerkesztő, televíziós szerkesztő, újságíró, majd ismét tanár. 1976-ban Nemzetközi Ifjúsági Jazz Énekes versenyt nyer Lengyelországban. Szerzői lemezei: Igazi paradicsom (1984), Jó reggelt (1990), A Híd (2004). Sok más szólólemez, illetve közreműködői lemez fűződik nevéhez. Gyakori vendég a Benkó Dixilend Banddel. 1985-ben megjelenik az Európai Legjobbak Toplistáján. Számos ország fesztiváljain szerepelt különböző formációkkal - nagy sikerrel. Jelenleg is gyakran énekel és tanít a Liszt Ferenc Zeneművészeti Egyetem Jazz tanszékén és az MZTSZ művészeti szakiskolájában. 2004-ben Szabó Gábor életműdíjat kap.
