Charlie Barnet was a great sax player, who started his band in 1933. His band had a Duke Ellington influence in its sound. Barnet's band was a very swinging band that required top musicians to play the arrangements. Barnet's big band had a rough style to it which made it really sound different and swinging. After the mid fifties his popularity diminished along with the majority of the big bands
