The title cut and "Cabaret" from this mostly vocal session were big hits, but most of the other selections are only passable due to his charm. There is very little trumpet here with the last version of The All-Stars doing their best to support an ailing but still cheerful Armstrong.

Mit seinem Hit What A Wonderful World ließ Louis Armstrong 1970 die Herzen schmelzen. Der Traditional We Shall Overcome, Pharoah Sander's The Creator Has A Master Plan, Duke Ellingtons Mood Indigo runden sein zehn Titel um- fassendes Vermächtnis ab.

WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD

I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world

I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world

The colours of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people going by
I see friends shakin' hands, sayin' "How do you do?"
They're really saying "I love you"

I hear babies cryin', I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll ever know
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world
Yes, I think to myself, what a wonderful world

 Oh yeah

CABARET

What good is sittin' alone in your room
Come hear the music play, yes
Life is a cabaret old chum
 Come to the cabaret

Put down that knittin', the book and the broom
 Time for a holiday, yes
Life is a cabaret old chum
 So come to the cabaret

Come taste the wine, come hear that band
 Yes, it's time for celebratin'
Right this way, your table's waitin'

No use permittin' a prophet of doom
 Wipe every smile away, yes
Life is a cabaret old chum
So come to the cabaret, yes

 ------ instrumental break ------

Yes, life is a cabaret old chum
 Only a cabaret old chum
 So come to the cabaret

THE HOME FIRE

Pardon the smile on my face my friend
Dreamin' of reachin' my journeys end
I'm headin' straight for my hearts desire
Gee, it's good to know I'm near the home fire

All of the folks that I love are there
I got a date with my favourite chair
With every step every hope grows higher
Didn't know how much I missed the home fire

The noises, the TV, the rusty old pipes
The cat always teasin' my dog
The neighbours, the quarrels, the screaming of kids
For the first time in years I'll sleep like a log

Heaven is waiting for me, my friend
Seven or eight dreams around the bend
And if you're ever in town inquire
We'll be glad to have you share the home fire

Yes, the noises, the TV, the rusty old pipes
The cat always teasin' my dog
The neighbours, the quarrels, the scream of the kids
For the first time in years I'll sleep like a log

Heaven is waiting for me, my friend
Seven or eight dreams around the bend
And if you're ever in town inquire
We'll be glad to have you share the home fire

We'll be glad to have you share the home fire

DREAM A LITTLE DREAM OF ME

Yes, stars shining bright above you
Night breezes seem to whisper "I love you"
Birds singin' in the sycamore trees
Dream a little dream of me, yes

 Say nighty-night and kiss me
Just hold me tight and tell me you'll miss me
While I'm alone and blue as can be
Dream a little dream of me

Stars fading but I linger on dear
 Still craving your kiss
I'm longin' to linger till dawn dear
 Just saying this, yes

Sweet dreams till sunbeams find you
Sweet dreams that leave all worries behind you
But in your dreams whatever they be
Dream a little dream of me

 ------ instrumental break ------

Yes, stars fading but I linger on dear
 Still craving your kiss
I'm longing to linger till dawn dear
 Just saying this, yes

Sweet dreams till sunbeams find you
Sweet dreams that leave all worries far behind you
But in your dreams whatever they be
Dream a little dream of me
Yes, dream a little dream of me

GIVE ME YOUR KISSES

Give me your kisses, I'll give you my heart
Give me your promise that we'll never part
I'll give you love and devotion
High as the sky above, deeper than the deepest ocean

Give me the right to call you all mine
And I'll be true till the ending of time
Give me your kisses, I'm willing to start
And I'll give you my heart

 ------ instrumental break ------

Give me the right to call you all mine
And I'll be true till the ending of time
Give me your kisses, I'm willing to start
And I'll give you my heart

THE SUNSHINE OF LOVE

Where there is sunshine, oh that's where you are
Where there is laughter, then you can't be far
You're in my dreams every night
Oh how I long to hold you tight, I need you

I'll follow you dear from here to a star
Your lips are honey but sweeter by far
From now till forever I'll keep dreamin' of
You and the sunshine of love (the sunshine of love)

Where there is sunshine, oh that's where you are
Where there is laughter, then you can't be far
Yes, you're in my dreams every night
Mmm, how I long to a-hold a-you tight

I'll follow you dear from here to a star
Your lips are honey but sweeter by far
Yes now until forever I'll keep dreamin' of
You and the sunshine of love

HELLO BROTHER

A man wants to work for his pay
A man wants a place in the sun
A man wants a gal proud to say
That she'll become his lovin' wife
He wants a chance to give his kids a better life, yes
 Well hello, hello, hello brother

You can travel all around the world and back
You can fly or sail or ride a railroad track
But no matter where you go you're gonna find
That people have the same things on their minds

A man wants to work for his pay
A man wants a place in the sun
A man wants a gal proud to say
That she'll become his lovin' wife
He wants a chance to give his kids a better life
 Well hello brother, hello, yeah

 ------ instrumental break ------

He wants a chance to give his kids a better life, yes
 Well hello, hello, brother hello
I said hello, hello, brother hello

THERE MUST BE A WAY

There must be a way to help me forget that we're through
There must be a way to stop me from dreamin' of you
There must be a star in the skies that isn't reflecting your eyes
I just don't know how to disguise how much I miss you

There must be a song that doesn't remind me of you
There must be a kiss that'll thrill me like yours used to do
I look for a way to be happy, happy with somebody new
Oh, there must be a way but I can't find a way without you

 ------ instrumental break ------

There must be a song that doesn't remind me of you
Yes, there must be a kiss that'll thrill me like yours used to do
I look for a way to be happy, happy with somebody new
Oh, there must be a way but I can't find a way without you

FANTASTIC, THAT'S YOU

You look at me and then a song begins
Played on a million velvet violins
My head goes reelin' and around it spins
 Fantastic, fantastic, that's you, yes

You whisper "Darling" and before my eyes
A blaze of fireworks light up the skies
My heart grows wings then away it flies
 Fantastic, fantastic, that's you

You perform miracles whenever you hold me near
Tender, warm miracles that make me surrender dear, yes

And when you kiss me heaven opens wide
And there you are inviting me inside
No wonder angels that have staring eyes ???
 Fantastic, fantastic, that's you

 ------ instrumental break ------

Yes, and when you kiss me heaven opens wide
And there you are inviting me inside
No wonder angels that have staring eyes ???
 Fantastic, fantastic, that's you

I GUESS I'LL GET THE PAPERS AND GO HOME

Yes, I guess I'll get the papers and go home
Like I've been doin' ever since we've been apart
I get some consolation when I read
Of someone elses lonely heart, yes
I wonder if you get the papers too
And if you feel as melancholy as I do
Until you're in my arms again, never more to roam
I guess I'll get the papers and go home, yes

I guess I'll get the papers and go home
Like I've been doin' ever since we've been apart
Yes, I get some consolation when I read
 Of someone elses lonely heart
Mmm, I wonder if you get the papers too (bah-ba-dee-do-do-do)
And if you feel as melancholy as I do
Baby, till you're in my arms again, never more to roam
I guess I'll get the papers and go home
Yes, I guess I'll get the papers and go home

HELLZAPOPPIN'

Hold your hats, the roof is 'bout to tumble in
Holy cats, the walls and floors are crumblin'
 Hellzapoppin', hellzapoppin', hellzapoppin'
The whole gang's whoopin' up the whoop-de-doo

 Me-oh-my, it's gonna be uproarious
We'll fly high, tonight we'll be notorious
 Hellzapoppin', hellzapoppin', hellzapoppin'
And you're invited to the party too

Better look out, ain't no cook-out
We're playin' this one by ear
 We're throwin' the book out

It's a bash, the signs are unmistakable
What a smash, we're breakin' all that's breakable
There's no stoppin', hellzapoppin', why not drop in
We won't stop until the night is through

 ------ instrumental break ------

We won't tire, we'll fly higher
We'll be hotter than floor, a-than a floor on fire ???
Raise your glass, the party will be riotous
What a gas, the cops will never quiet us
 There's no toppin', hellzapoppin', hellzapoppin'
We'll be hellzapoppin' till the night is through
